Thread: How to download torrents on a network with admin restrictions

I actually got it right, got the info from a few guys on a program we use called DC. We use DC to share files etc.

But, at the end of the day it sucked downloading torrents, only got 500kb/s max speed if I'm lucky so I may as well use my 1mb connection at home through the night rather than sit on campus for a couple of hours to download crap! Somehow the admins of our network on campus got torrents throttled or whatever. With the connection we have I'm supposed to get 10-14mb/s, so yeah! It's a waste!

    Anyway, thanks guys

Did you check out ZbigZ? Most people in this thread have proposed needlessly complicated methods with various limitations, but ZbigZ is just an easy to use website that gives you unlimited speed and storage for torrent downloads over http. Isn't that what you were looking for?

Bryn26, do you have shares in ZbigZ or something?

Unfortunately not, but it is the best option for anyone who wants torrents without the P2P hassle. Downstorm is a similar service, but ZbigZ offers way more bang for the buck.

You feel like you have paid for the rights to pirate using the university's network?

I'm at NWU. We use Utorrent Portable and use a proxy with it. Only type in your username and password, use in port 80 and type in the host of our proxy.

Exactly what I did elL0L! I'm also at NWU! And no I didn't pay for rights to pirate at my university and don't act like you have never pirated! Just like everyone in this country says "I'm not a racist" but meanwhile back at the ranch every single person has made a racist remark!

I pay the university a lot of money each year so I can probably do with the internet what I like!

Damn, if I realized that is how it worked I should have hosted a few gaming servers and web sites on the University internet while I was studying

LOL, I love your comparisons. Sure I download MP3 music. At home. And yes, you do sound like you are entitled to pirate using the university's network

Lol when I was there it didn't work like that. The real reason is that they want to prevent abuse of the network so that it can actually be used by the 10% that's using the internet for the purpose it's meant for - research

elL0L I haven't tried the portable version yet, only the normal one! Will there actually be a difference in download speed? Some guys say they get up to 8mb/s! They told me to look at the number of seeders, so I tried to download a torrent with 20 000 seeders and still only got 500kb/s?

Bryn26, this does not happen often, but I am going to admit that (someone other than me) was right... actually been using ZbigZ for a little while now, it is pretty great.
