Default Fridges: Bosch vs Samsung vs LG ?

    Morning all

Figured out that my 1999 KIC fridge was chowing electricity, about 10 units just over night. Time to get a new one.

Model is KBF404 double door fridge, so I'm thinking it's perhaps 404 litres.

    600w x 600d x +-1850h

Would like to get a Bosch based on their rep, I'd imagine there's a bit of a premium for them, but perhaps worth it in the long run. How do Samsung's and LG's fess up to the Bosch's? Got an LG washing machine which is pretty damn good so not completely against going Korean.

Anyone done the research kind enough to shed some light?

    Thanks!

    PP.

Don't know anything about fridges but we recently got a new one, it's a Defy cheapy model that is Eco friendly and apparently does some serious power saving, so maybe look into them?

Heard bad things about Defy from what I remember in some older threads. But they're certainly a lot cheaper. Will keep them in mind. Looks like the cheapest suitable Samsung/LG is R5k+...

    Found these two here:

Might be abit too small for your requirements though, Game doesn't seem to sell Defy. Also the Samsung fridges that have the A rating for energy efficiency are really expensive as far as I can see.

Looked what fridge we have, it's a DFC381

I stay clear of Defy and KIC. Their older fridges had very poor insulation which resulted in wasted energy due to the compressor having to run more frequently. Maybe their new models are better but the new Defy fridge at work is really noisy and seems to run a lot more than the LG's I have at home.

I have two LG fridges which run 24/7:
A 320L LG fridge/freezer and a 710L LG fridge/freezer and my electricity bill is about R500 per month including cooking, lighting and a 200L geyser so the fridges don't seem to use much power.

The LG's are well insulated and from what I can see the Samsung's are very similar in quality so I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a Samsung either.

    Go for Samsung !
I would not touch Bosch ever again ! Bosch parts is not as freely available as Samsung.
You might argue that "It's a new fridge + extended guarantee + blah blah blah" but trust me, once something goes wrong with that fridge, your DOOMED

Samsung all the way and they look good aaaannnddd if you get a smart home fridge, you can access it remotely from your Samsung android phone, think about it, snacks on the go . LG will die on you. Anything LG is rubbish.
