And another shock-bill comes to the fore. Possibly the single worst shock bill I have ever heard of - 9 terabytes! http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthre...-9tb-data-bill

So Jannie, what do you think about this one? Although it doesn't sound entirely legit...

It must be noted though that this is a Nashua query. They handle the billing for their clients.
Now why you loer en kyk gelyk?

Ah, you're right. So does Vodacom not play a part here at all in this process? Genuinely curious...

When it comes to actual billing...not really. Nashua gets raw usage info from network direct which gets fed into their billing system and then you get billed by them. Hence why all billing queries for Autopage and Nashua must be handled by them. The Vodacom Shops for example cant even see any kind of info for a Vodacom number that resides with Nasuah.

I agree...it does seem like a suspect case that should be investigated by them. Not sure if Jannie will be able to assist with this for the reason mentioned above.

But the control mechanisms ultimately still lie with Vodacom. Or are notifications and cut-offs controlled by Nashua themselves?

Also, what must be noted is that a bill of this nature is entirely possible, given the current Vodacom environment. This is the crux of my argument. Eliminate that possibility.

Sheez, I hope Jannie is able to help, because that is in the region of a R19 million bill...

When it comes to cutting off a line when a certain amount is reached like with call limit lock...this too is handled by their system as far as I know. Their system will send a instruction to the Vodacom system to implement the lock. I could be mistaken...but I think that is the case.

I agree..it could be possible under optimum conditions I guess....but improbable.

Not really. Contract subscriber with no-limit on the contract like I did for years because I constantly exceeded my call limit, closes a laptop lid because he assumes the system will shut-down. Leaves his office for the weekend. It doesn't shutdown and his lined-up downloads all come through at once. Bang! 19 million ronds, please.

There are many scenarios in which this could happen and those need to be eliminated. Imagine having your entire financial future destroyed because of this?

Reason why I say it is unlikely is because of this:

12.5 GB per hour, 208MB per minute, 3.4 megabytes per sec or nearly 30mb/sec ... sustained?
    - quotes from a post in that thread.

Yes...the network is capable of supporting 42mbps...but it is unlikely that this was sustained for such a very long period consecutively.

8.ta do that with postpaid contracts, as well. They won't let you go in OOB - you need to log on to their site and physically buy more data. At least in this, they are winners in my book!

    Impossible. 9TB/month = 30Mb/s x 24h x 31days.

Not even I will claim the network is that good!

Yeah I could download 40+ Gigs on any given day from MTN (and that was years ago), and my 8ta can also clock in high amounts since the network is still basically unused (yay for me I guess!)
but with vodacom? no ways. the network is way too clogged up with all the millions of users.

maybe if he was next to an upgraded 3G tower that literally nobody else used, but that is highly unlikely like jannie says

this incident however, really proves the point that limits need to be put in place.

Perhaps the offending 3G card was tossed in the trash?

But she's not a regular since she had her baby...

I don't think anyone with a R20k bill would reconnect soon, either

wiped from the face of the internet.... good bye blu!
