Thread: AfriHost and WebAfrica slow

    Default AfriHost and WebAfrica slow

For the last week I've been getting bad speeds and some days terrible speeds from both AfriHost ( 4mb Uncapped ) and WebAfrica ( 4m Uncapped )

The line is currently at Afrihost and Telkom did 2 test today with calls and sms's stating there is nothing wrong.

I am in UitZicht / Durbanville / Western Cape

Please bear in mind that my usage is very low for uncapped accounts, thus I'm not being throttled.

    Line Stats
    -----------

    ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 9.0 db 4.0 db
Noise Margin 24.3 db 13.0 db

    WebAfrica

Both these accounts have run at full speed previously and I've never experienced such low speeds.

At various times in the day the speeds are horrible and the ping tests too.

What causes high jitter because sometimes it's over 65!

This is extremely frustrating because I can't make proper Skype calls ( for my business )

    Any advice?

I think something is brewing in CT. My mweb uncapped is slow. Even the line at work is acting up.

I posted my current speeds on another thread

Same here on Afrihost Uncapped, had problems opening Google and some other pages about an hour ago, now it seems fine but the speed isn't normal

Right now, my Afrihost 4mbps uncapped is crawling at 50KB/s, while my Afrihost capped is flying at 380KB/s. This is on the exact same torrent download, just on 2 separate Afrihost accounts. What gives? Uncapped been pretty slow on torrents downloads the last 2 days.

We'll definitely need to look into the issues reported here. Can imagine you guys must be frustrated and close to the hair-pulling stage

Please PM me your usernames so we can see if this is something related to general DSLAM congestion or any other issues.

We'll definitely look into each and every case.

my line is at cybersmart and hasn't skipped a beat ... 2 friends, one whose line is also with cybersmart and another with afrihost. Cybersmart is running perfectly- afrihost host is fair but constant drops are increasing.

For those of you in Durbanville, this may explain some of the issues you are experiencing. We received this response from Telkom:-

"There are no network faults reported for that DSLAM,but the DSLAM is working at 97%.It is probably going above 100% at peak times."
