I think it looks rather ridiculous when people drive with their seats reclined all the way back....

So what's your seating position and why?
My seat is as low as possible and reclined. Why? I am tall with above average length arms. No, I do not look alien, just rangey. If I sit with my seat straight up I am highly uncomfortable as I feel cramped. If I straighten my seat and slide it back, then I find the pedals are too far away and it just doesn't feel right.

And anyway, my dashboard is so damn big that I have to sit with my head up to the windscreen to see my nose, so it matters not if I am reclined or sitting at 90% as the dashboard makes it difficult to see my nose.

Just FYI, you are supposed to be comfortable when driving. Why add height adjustable and lumbar adjustable seats? Why add rake and reach adjustable steering wheels? Why make your rear-view and side mirrors adjustable? It's all for the purpose of allowing the driver to find a comfortable and suitable driving position.

As mentioned, I am tall. I've climbed into cars where I can't fit my legs under the steering wheel, a most uncomfortable position for me and makes it nigh impossible for me to drive. So I drop the seat, push it back, recline it if I have to and adjust the mirrors until I am comfortable.

I set my seat squab as low as possible, set reach so that I can comfortably fully depress the clutch without stretching, then adjust seatback so that I can hold the top of the steering wheel with either hand without moving forwards away from the seat back.

That way I can steer properly without removing myself from the side support the seat offers in a corner.

I always thought it was becos the gangsta's didn't want to be recognised, so they hid behind the car's door, just peering out of the window, whilst they rollin' in da hood. So now the wannabe local laaities just have to copy they idolz. Yo.

My friends drive like this all the time and I absolutely hate it!! When I get in their car I adjust the seat to its upright position, but some of their seats are permanently so, so maybe that's why..

I also don't get this at all! To me it is a sign that the driver of the car is not so much driving it as just relaxing in it while it moves from lane to lane. I am 6ft1 and I sit with my seat pretty much parallel to the the B-pillar, lowered all the way. There is plenty of room behind my seat. This puts everything I need in close reach and the steering wheel is at the recommended 30~40cm distance from my face.

Any position other than that and I will not feel in control of the car, especially when cornering at speed.

When my back is against the seat, I can comfortably grab the top of the wheel with my elbow bent at about 160-150 degrees.

One of my colleagues drives a VW City golf. His seat is reclined so far back, when he turns his head 90 degrees to look out the window he actually looks out of the back passanger window.

If I drove a citi golf I'd also want to be as far away as possible from the object I'd inevitably drive into :P
