Shoot with a small f-stop. Girl filled in with flash (with snoot, so you don't light the ground).

    No...

Most likely was shot with a small aperture (above f16) and light from the front is from a silver reflector or fill in flash. Pretty weird photo imo... location does not gel with the model and her clothes...

thanks to Edduck and lupedelupe for giving me a usable answer - this photo was taken by a professional photographer http://www.karltaylor.co.uk/People.htm and i didnt think he would photoshop his model into the picture and photoshop the lense flare on the sun - i will give this a try.

    Thanks again guys

Thank you for link btw, I am also looking for new inspiration. This tog uses some great flash techniques to achieve her goal, I must go play around with my flashes this weekend!

Easy - just shoot into the sun with a fairly small aperture and if you really want to ensure flaring use an UV filter - that's all they're really good for anyway A speedlite or a bounce card will help you illuminate the subject.

BTW - lenses with an odd number of blades give a starburst pattern with twice the number of points as there are blades while lenses with an even number of blades will give you the same number of points as there are blades. IOW - an 8 bladed lens will give you 8 points but a 7 bladed lens will give you 14.

damn i did not know that? besides sitting and counting the points is there a way to tell how many blades your lense has?

Prime lenses seems to create better lens flares than zoom lenses. Uncoated lenses produce the best flares!

Use a smaller f-stop to get star-like blades from the aperture.
I believe posters are recognised by their sig... so I made one.
