Thread: Why do people drive with their seatsbelts behind their seats?

Question Why do people drive with their seatsbelts behind their seats?

I have seen this in a few cars, mostly when they are parked. The seatbelt is stretched around the back of the seat and clipped in at all times it seem. Makes no sense to me at all

Cos they are stupid twats who don't wear their seatbelts, and their cars bitch at them if the belt isn't plugged into the buckle.

    Passenger or Drivers seat?

i know that friends of ours puts it like that for the kids, so that the kid doesn't get strangled by the seatbelt, and the kid just climbs out most times, without undoing the seatbelt.

If the kid's getting strangled by the seatbelt, the kid is too small to sit in the front seat.

Clearly you don't have a bell in your car that rings constantly when you turn it on... i don't have to drive anywhere, just turn it on and ding ding ding ding... so i clip it behind so when i get in the car i can turn that **** sound off, then put on my seat belt.. dealership says they can't change that... reversing with seatbelt on sucks, so you just plug it in, reverse out, plug it out put it back on and your back to happy days...

don't know why this question was asked in the first place xD that's just logical

so its ok for the kid to go smashing through the window from the back then eh? cause of course you cant put a seatbelt on there either, at least his kids aren't standing on the seat...

Wow its amazing how quickly you can judge(without thinking i might add)...

Actually, you judge more quickly and more incorrectly.
Cars have seatbelts in the back too. And if the seatbelt doesn't fit the kid - booster seat. And the kid is too small for a booster, then baby seat. Simple.

True, yes, at least the kid isn't standing on the seat... but an improperly used restraint is probably exactly as ineffective. Especially if the passenger airbag goes off with the kid's face travelling towards it at high speed... that kid will be disfigured for life.

Well booster seats are blooming expensive, i don't know if you have noticed? Even a 7 year old gets slightly strangled by the seatbelt.

I just feel that sometimes people do things for reasons that they think are right, not because they want to kill someone/their kid, but because they genuinely think it works.

Are we all soo "enlightened" that we can't even make mistakes without having to use "natural selection" in a demeaning way...

Makes sense. If the car thinks the seatbelt is plugged in then it will deploy the airbag in an accident. So if you are not buckled in and you are hurdled against an exploding airbag you will definitely take yourself out of the gene pool

7 IMHO is still too young to sit in the front. As for the cost - can you put a price on a child's safety?

Well most people make mistakes - but commenting on the mistakes may educate?

Common fallacy. The airbag will deploy regardless; as it inflates near-instantaneously it improves survivability regardless of whether one is buckled up or not.

I'm with you on this. I remember about a year ago, a dad and his 2 kids went to the shop one evening quickly, and didn't buckle the kids up. This would turn out to be the worst night of his life when he got into an accident, and both kids were flung from the car and died. This happened at Okavango in Brackenfell near Cape Gate. Perhaps someone is aware of this and has more details?

It's because of idiots who don't like that alarm bell when driving and don't want to have a seat belt on.
