Thread: So what are you picking up with DVB-T2?

  1. #1

Default So what are you picking up with DVB-T2?

Bought the PCTV Nanostick T2 and except for SABC1,2,3 and eTV, I'm picking up TBN, another religious channel, Tshwane TV and I think one more useless channel which I can't remember the name of, by using only the indoor antenna that came with it. Am I missing some nice channels by not using a decent antenna or is that what everybody else is picking up?

wow, that is cool. My first thought was that it would take up allot op bandwidth but I guess it will take the same as two normal channels. nice.

Does anyone know where we can get a copy of SANS 862:2012? AFAIK it's available to the public. Can't find it anywhere.

Its a strange line-up, with Lesotho TV and E Africa on there.
Also noticed Koowee on the DStv multiplex is not encrypted.

How are the multiplex's divided? I know there are two at the moment, one on 50 and one on 38. Are ETV and MC sharing a multiplex?

If I don't pick up the Lesotho TV/E Africa stuff does that mean I have to do something with the antenna, or is it simply not on my transmitter?

    Not on your transmitter.

Those community channels are area specific. In JHB you get Soweto TV and in CT you get CTV.

Goobie, Where did you did you get the PCTV Nanostick T2 from? I can't seem to find a retailer in SA that stocks it.

Does anyone know of a resource stating exactly where DVB-T2 is actively broadcasting? I am in Observatory, Cape Town.

    Just found this
SA: Statement by the Department of Communications, on digital television broadcasting (12/04/2012)

As at 31 March 2012, Sentech had achieved 60% digital signal coverage of the population coverage with all provinces at 30% or more population coverage. In effect, 96% of Gauteng, 92% of North West, 73% of Western Cape, 33% of Mpumalanga, 31% of Eastern Cape, 46% of Free State, 30% of the Northern Cape, 45% of Kwazulu Natal and 59% of the Limpopo population are covered,” said Sentech CEO, Dr Setumo Mohapi.

OK I take my words back, Sentech has a whole resource on this...... http://www.sentech.co.za/content/dtt

So it seems that Cape Town is fully covered. Can anyone recommend a decent USB DVB-T2 tuner that I can use on my HTPC?
