You can port to us without losing your old number. Just follow these easy steps:

  1. Buy any Cell C starter pack and do NOT open it
  2. RICA your SIM card
  3. SMS #portme#serialnumber# (note: this is the RICA serial number of your new Cell C SIM) to 084 767 8287 from your MTN, Vodacom or Virgin Mobile SIM card
  4. You will receive two confirmation SMSs within two hours on your MTN, Vodacom or Virgin Mobile SIM
  5. Wait 24 hours until your MTN, Vodacom or Virgin Mobile SIM card stops working
  6. Then you can insert your new Cell C SIM card and recharge to start making calls

If you activate your new Cell C SIM card before following the steps above, you will not be able to use it to port your number.

Ported

Ported to cellc, contract to contract under 10 hours :-) certainly a step up. ........minutes, data, sms all there as contracted....
Porting is simple and easy to cellc.....don't be afraid

Only one disappointment. Dual sims cannot be used at the same Time :-(

Welcome, once you go black you never go back!

As long as you have coverage, you'll be saving quite a bit on Cell C.

Wow, congrats on your quick port. My brother had a rather horrible experience...took about 6 calendar days (4 working days) for him to port prepaid Vodacom to CellC. I also had a similarly long waiting period when I ported 1.5 years ago from prepaid Virgin to CellC.

Make sure u do your pre checks. Check with your existing SP that u are able to port. Notify them you are porting as some may want the 30 days notice. Ensure that you give your correct account no to cellc when porting, it is case sensitive. If your port fails, call the porting department of your existing SP and ask them why the port fails..they can see the request to port and reason for failure. Remember not to put your new cellc sim in the phone until the existing sim stops working or you cannot make or receive any calls.

Cellc intro once ported was amazing. All information was sms to me once port was successful. Mms wap etc all setup as soon as new sim inserted.

Good post.

Ported yesterday to CellC and it also took <10 hours.

Wonder if the other 2 networks are tracking how many customers are porting cellc!

Was at two different cellc stores this weekend and they both had queues. very busy:D

If you have existing contract which is about to expire, you don't have to wait tiil the end of the contract. You can port now to Cell C prepaid, as contract obligations and porting rights are two different thing. How?
Request from your existing service provider to assign a different number to your contract and keep existing number. Once your number is freed from contract obligations, porting can be done immediately.

I want to see anyone get this done smoothly with a 3rd party SP

It is easier if you know your rights and stand up on it. If they refuse they are violating your rights as defined in the law.

Porting prepaid to Cell C-Question for the Rep.

I want to port my prepaid number to Cell C. On the starter pack it says to sms the serial number. Which serial number? Must I sent the RICA serial number, or the 19 digit number physically printed on the sim card?
I am thinking the 19 digit number, but I may be wrong.
Thanks

It's the "RICA serial number", you should receive a SMS afterwards confirming your porting.

Just remember not to insert the SIM card into the phone until your current signal/network stops working.

Aaah! Thanks for that. I s'pose I nearly gave my number to someone in Kazakstan :D

cell c by far the easiest to port to, especially prepaid to prepaid. Just buy new sim and follow instructions on the back. Other networks make you jump through hoops and charge you a 100 bucks

easiest way to port fron contract on VC to get to CellC

Hi,

Whats the best way to port from VC with the lest amount of issues. I'm on contract with VC, and my contract expires on the 15th of October..

Do you think its worth to switch to prepaid on VC, and then port to CellC... or would that just be making extra work for myself?

You need to notify Vodacom and request that they migrate your number to pre-paid when the contract finishes. If you don't, they'll just bill you for another month.
Once the number is on Vodacom prepaid you can safely port to Cell-C.
