I find alcohol to be a great way too loosen up, but obviously moderation is key. It gives you Dutch courage, but sometimes to the point where you loose your internal conscience completely. Ever heard of beer goggles? Its not that ugly chicks get hotter, its just your standards go down. Inappropriate things said in the conversation? You just don't give a @$$# about the outcome of saying it in the first place. That part of your brain that says "no, maybe I shouldn't do/say that" is weakened. In small quantity's, that's what gives you that ego boost essentially, but its just that, a temporary boost of the ego.
Pooky, rather build your confidence as a sober person, that way you can still get the good effects of alcohol you like, without actually needing to drink it. Wouldn't it be nice to go on a date with a beautiful girl and your that funny, witty person, just without needing to drink the booze? Confidence is key, and I think you are drinking to give a flase boost to your confidence. Nothing wrong with that, but it really wont ever do any permanent help to you or your confidence levels, if anything, bring them down due to relying on alcohol at a later stage in ones life. Thats how 50% of alcoholics start out imo.
Do you want to become the best person you can be/want to be? My best advice to any one is to meditate. It boosts confidence, refreshes your mind, can answer the questions of life you may have. Im not saying quit alcohol completely, every one wants to have fun (and I still get hammered every now and then), but it would be wise to develop the skills for mastering social interaction without the need for booze. MEDITATE!!
