Thread: Does each Mobile Operator have their own Capping Speed

Default Does each Mobile Operator have their own Capping Speed

I have noticed that I seem to go through my prepaid 3g capping much faster on Vodacom than 8ta? Vodacom has a much faster speed, but i thought the faster the better as it opens your pages quicker. Am I dreaming? I find I get better value with 8ta prepaid 3g data and it goes further when browsing and on the social networks..

Plus 8ta is much more competitive than the other networks with their 3gig promotion. But feel it could be cheaper! I feed off one of the 8ta Towers in Forest Hills, Durban.. Had to change my sim to data to qualify for their Promotion deals. And have no regrets..

Faster? well that's a matter of opinion mate.... since I've been with 8ta I haven't looked back since.
For me, Vodacom's network seems a bit clogged up with all their users, 8ta's pipes are wide open.

Their software is also 10 times better than that crap called Vodafone connect lite or "VMC"...
(It starts up 10 times faster, has SMS, and also supports USSD Commands!!!)

The other thing is VMC ALWAYS "forgets" my data usage when I disconnect... always. 8ta's software keeps logging and logging and logging.
Forgetting your usage stats is very bad when you have OOB rates (Not that thats a problem with 8ta anyhow, but it's still nice to know how much data I have left)

Vodacom's website also had problems ON THEIR WEBSITE telling me how much OOB I have gone, telling me the account info is not available at this time....tricky!
(8ta tells me exactly how much I have left)

    So... 8ta is:
    - Faster
    - Midnight cap "Happy hour" starts 1 hour earlier (11PM)
    - Account info more reliable
    - Better software that actually logs usage stats, that also supports USSD commands.
    - No OOB possible
    - No Contract
    - No "30 days carry over" limit, you can use 25mb's in the first month and the rest in month 12. (if you wanted, lol)
    - 10GB a month for R150, vs 2GB

As for your question, I thought i downloaded over 30 Gigs, but 8ta's site reported I had only used 26gigs... Yay!
with vodacom, the amount used was always more than i expected (not that I ever came close to downloading 10's of gigs)

We've got MWeb 3GB ADSL at home, the last few months we've been going over the 3 GB (but not by much, paying R79 pm). Should I go for uncapped with Mweb or can I add another SP (for example a 8ta or WebAfrica data package) to my existing MWeb one?

G'day, if you can afford uncap then go for it, and explore the web deeper.. Why add an additional pkg when it would most prob work out the same price for an uncap pkg! Am sure Mweb have many options, chat to them for suggestions.. Enjoy your day.
