Thread: The new Mede8er 1000x3D

    Default The new Mede8er 1000x3D

Mede8er are releasing the 1000x3D next week in SA. Starting price is R3499, any thoughts on it? Seems a bit steep don't you think?

Does that price include a large hard drive? I doubt that there is much difference between the 1000X3D and any of the Egreat RTD1186 based players such as the R6S which you can purchase online (DX, ebay) for ~$80 including shipping. I see that they are avertising a gigabit ethernet port so it will be interesting to hear how this performs as I am under the impression that most, if not all, of the current RTD1186 players struggle to copy large files at speeds close to 100Mbps. They all advertise gigabit capability though.

As nice a unit it may be, that's a bit steep - I can build a really good microserver for much less than that.

I'm not likely to ever but a mede8er again. My 500 never copied anything at more than 2mb or so.

Over your LAN? For me too, and I thought it had something to do with my network setup!!! Is it really that bad?

I had a mate who was suicidal. He was really depressed, so I pushed him in front of a steam train.
    He was chuffed to bits.

Yes it's horrific how slow it is!
We just got one of the Sammy smart tv's for the lounge now.. No need for the Mede8er anymore. Just stream HD to the TV from my micro server no issues

    Most probably 2.4GHz.

It depends on what network card you have. I would think that it doesn't have drivers for a 5GHz wireless card.

You also forgot about how they ditch support for existing models once newer ones are released.

This is one of the main reasons I'll never buy another one.

Yes the networking was that bad. They seem to enjoy corrupting hard drives too. This is why I decided to get a pc (hpms) running a real OS where these basics wouldn't be an issue.

Surprisingly the 1000X3D is considerably cheaper in Europe than it is in SA (199 Euro in EU vs R3000 in SA). It's probably reasonable value for 199 Euro but not at the local price.
