Thread: Getting phone via Expansys rather than local - any issues?

Default Getting phone via Expansys rather than local - any issues?

I'm tired of waiting for vodacom to get their act together and make the HTC One S available. Expansys has them for a fairly good price; are there any potential problems with getting the phone directly from overseas rather than through vodacom? Obviously warranty issues could be a problem, but is there anything else I should consider?

I have ordered a couple of phones from overseas (some through Expansys), didn't have any issues.

Just don't order an USA model, the frequencies (especially for 3G) are different.

Oh, and make sure that it is unlocked.

Just expect 3 month waiting time. Got my Xperia Play via them for R1600.

Also make sure local OEM's honor the warranty if its a concern, as you will be unable to take it to Vodacom/MTN in case you have any issues.
.... and thanks for all the fish.

I bought the S1 from them, no problem. If it breaks you can always send it back to them.
You'll need to pay for the courier though.

I've bought accessories from expansys in the past (cellphone cases and the like). Be prepared to wait and wait and wait... Other than that, haven't had issues.

Does anyone know whether HTC would honor the warranty for a One S ordered from the UK? I'm considering ordering from a reputable online dealer for much less than Expansys charges, but the warranty matter remains a concern

This. It will take AGES to get your stuff. The estimated times on their website are a complete joke, add at least 2 months to whatever they say.

So by the time your order gets here it might very well be available locally.

This was not my experience, their website said 6 days or so and I received my Galaxy in ~7 days, meaning their time scales were off, but not "add 2 months" kind of off.

No idea, I guess they'll charge for the repairs (instead of 3 months free warranty or some such).

Then you're one of the lucky ones. Check Hellopeter, as well as MyBB for complaints about the delivery times. You probably bought something they had in stock locally.
