What router, how is it connected to the PC, any other information which will assist in helping you.

PC is simply connected via ethernet to one the 4 ports at the back
Perhaps it is using an on-demand dialing scheme, which means that it disconnects as soon as there are no connectivity on its LAN connection.
I've got a microcom that behaves the same way. You drop the link to the router or pull the cable the adsl drops.
