Default BMW gives Springboks new cars

Some people have all the luck, well except for the BMW part

Cape Town. - Springbok rugby sponsor BMW has given 8 Springbok and ex-Springbok players and the team coach, new cars.

BMW is the official vehicle partner for the Springboks after signing a 5-year deal with the South African Rugby Union (Saru) in May last year, a deal estimated to be worth around R40m over the 5-year period.

On Wednesday, BMW South Africa announced another deal involving the local rugby stars who will now act as ambassadors for the German brand.

The players include Springbok captain Jean De Villiers and then Schalk Burger, Pierre Spies, Chiliboy Rallepelle, Francois Steyn, JP Pietersen and Jannie du Plessis.

Along with the players new Bok coach Heyneke Meyer and Springbok rugby legend Victor Matfield have been selected to be BMW-ambassadors.

Each ambassador receives a brand new BMW 335i Sport.

De Villiers, Meyer and Matfield will also each receive a BMW X6 in addition to their BMW 3 Series vehicles.

The vehicles were built at the BMW plant in Rosslyn in Pretoria.

The German company’s local subsidiary was its first outside Europe when it was established in 1973 and has become the tenth biggest for BMW worldwide.

    A new 335i Sport costs between R500 000 and R550 000. The value of a new BMW X6? About R840 000.

Failure to understand the concept of sponsorship and endorsements in sport.

I do understand perfectly well, but everyone knows BMW - I don't think they need marketing like this anyway.

Good on them and well deserved, at least they aren't being given to corrupt cANCer officials in a hush hush manner.

They sponsor the Boks because they feel that being associated with a prime brand like the Sprigboks is good for their image and no, you don't get to tell them what is good for their image and whethre they need to market themselves or not.

Why are you so upset about a private company doing what it wants with money/assets that have nothing to do with you, your tax money or the government? They haven't broken a law. Many sportsmen get given cars for the period of a sponsorship deal.

    And anyway;

    Investing in SA.

    Corporate Social Responsibility Overview.

BMW's investment in the upgrade of the company's production facility in Rosslyn, just north of Pretoria, is just one way in which BMW has invested in South Africa. In reality, the company's interest in and commitment to the local community goes a lot deeper.

This is because BMW South Africa is committed to developing a partnership with its neighbouring communities. The company invests millions of Rands every year in empowering these communities, developing sustainable skills, and contributing in the long-term, to a better quality of life.

The company does not believe in handouts, but rather in investing in ways which help communities to help themselves. This investment can be categorised into five key areas: education, science and technology, sport, the environment and local community development.
BMW South Africa has implemented an HIV/AIDS programme designed by the workforce.

BMW’s HIV/AIDS Programme strives to reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS and implements long term, people focused solutions to minimise the effect of the epidemic. The success of the programme is as a result of the Company’s commitment to fight HIV, thereby making HIV a Corporate Strategy. Furthermore, HIV is seen as part of a comprehensive ongoing Wellness and People Development Programme and the culture of trust amongst Employees has been one of the key principles. BMW Group worldwide has adopted the programme and will be rolling out elements of the HIV Strategy internationally throughout the world.

    The task team.

A BMW HIV/AIDS task team drives the action plan to assess and manage the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic on the Employees and their families. They have formulated a workplace policy that recognizes the crucial need for the implementation of preventative actions in the fight against the disease as well as contingency plans to manage its impact. A smaller working committee meets frequently to ensure that action plans are implemented.
The above excerpts taken from BMW SAs website, so they are fulfilling their corporate social responsibility.
