Default Need to buy new tyres - suggestions?

The time has come for me to replace the tyres on my Golf. And since I have never had to buy tyres before, I would really appreciate some pointers.

I don't have any aftermarket wheels or anything. Ignore the "ding", seems the only photos I have that show my wheels are from my accident last year...

    Ignore the

I know about tyre sizes etc. so I am not a complete noob - I am more concerned about which brands and fitment centres I should look at.

Looking for something economical but obviously reliable. And preferably in Bellville/Durbanville/Brackenfell area.

Saw a few people mentioning Goodhope Tyres - they around the corner from me..

    Comments are now open

Theres aplace close to the airport that is apparently good. Dont know the name tho.
but most brands should be fine. Ask them what they have on special atm. If its a brand youve never heard about before rather stay away.

phone a few places to get prices first, then atleast youll know what to expect

I normally go to Auto Centre in Kraaifontein. Used to be Hi-Q till recently. Get good service and advice from them. In Brighton road just before you get to the circle.
Silence is golden, unless you have a toddler, then it is very suspicious.

Hi-Q seem to know what they are doing, otherwise TWT. Unfortunately it's hit and miss on the alignment side, most places don't calibrate their equipment.

Brand wise, don't bother with Dunlop. I'd look for a set of Conti or Goodyear tyres.

Get yourself Continentals from Tiger Wheel & Tyre.

They offer you insurance on the tyres - take it & thank me later.

There's a TWT right next to the Vodacom building in Bellville, opposite Tafelberg Furnishers.

If their quote is too high, there's a HiQ, Prima Bande and Good Year just up the road, close to the big VW/Audi shop.

My car uses 16" so when I replace tyres its expensive, usually around 1k a pop.

So I go for value for money.

Today I bought one for 570 which is truck loads better, they also had yokohama for 1k.

    This is at www.autostyle.co.za

Here's a fun fact: you can buy with eBucks from them.

    Thanks for the helpful comments!

I will start calling everyone in the morning to get some prices.

    Oh, and Conti/Goodyear it is!

I just saw on TWT website that their Conti Eco contact is actually quite well priced - R429 per tyre. Don't see prices on Hankook though.

If you go conti you will get a free Beame and 6 months subs - could def be an option. Honestly I chose some decently priced Michelin - as they have a guaranteed 70000km life

You consider 1grand expensive for 16inches expensive? Cheapest decent 16inches for my car was R1350 for Bridgestone ER370.

    Wowzer!

I wonder how those compare to the Yokohamas from autostyle

Also, if it's a 4x4 it would be more expensive than my lil cars tyres

I wonder if it has to be fitted to the car they put the tyres on... I already have a tracker, but my mother could use the slightly decreased insurance premium for having a tracking device installed....
