    Jackie Selebi timeline

Corruption-convicted former top cop Jackie Selebi was expected to be released on medical parole from Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria on Friday, Correctional Services Minister Sibusiso Ndebele announced. He said the department had limited capacity to provide for the palliative care needed by some offenders. Palliative care meant he would be kept comfortable until his death, as there was no hope of him recovering. Selebi was president of Interpol at the time of the investigation into claims that he received money from convicted drug trafficker and police informer Glenn Agliotti. He was convicted of corruption on July 2, 2010, and handed a 15-year jail sentence. Selebi appealed against the corruption conviction in the Supreme Court of Appeal. In December 2011 he collapsed at home in Waterkloof, Pretoria, while watching the appeal judgment on television. His appeal was denied. This meant he had to begin his 15-year jail sentence for corruption. It was decided he would stay in Pretoria Central Prison's medical wing indefinitely.

I very much doubt if there is one ANC high ranking member that is not corrupt.

I honestly believe though that he might be ill, Shaik is a different story all together. It has to be said though that Selebi would have spent more time in Jail had he chewed gum on the Gautrain (got this from a tweet today)

That is how serious this country takes our laws, seems corruption and fraud are not considered crimes

The rule of the thumb in most countries is that if you're in government, you will get away with the crime, according to common law every citizen should also have the same access to that R17 million of law fees that Selebi got from the state (however lets be honest, that isn't going to happen).

However I'm actually convinced that Selebi might really be ill.

Look, to be fair, Selebi was not the only one that should have gone down. All of them should be rotting in jail. Agliotti, Shultz...all of them

I think they wrote the jail time down wrong, it's 15 years, not 15 months...

Most frightening thing about all this is that Selebi ("a liar and a person of low moral") was president of interpol at some point.

looking at the timeline I am amazed! here's a man who once was at the pinnacle of everything awesome locally and internationally... but he just couldn't resist the lure of easy money... He crafted his own sword and fell on it...

Pure Greed, I mean how much wasn't he earning at the time that he needs to now take more money, that's what's scary with the ANC comrades, it's never enough, WE must have IT ALL.

Except falling on your own sword is usually an honourable thing..
