Default Out of Interest : za.co.za

    Hey everyone

Out of interest, I was playing on Uniforum's website and noticed that the domain: za.co.za is available for registration. http://co.za/cgi-bin/whois.sh?Domain=za&Enter=Enter

Your query has generated the following reply:-

    Search on za (.co.za)
    Match: No Matches
This domain is available for registration. The first correct application
received and processed for this domain should be successful.

I tried registering the domain, but got a reply that the domain za.co.za contains an illegal word.

! You appear to be trying to register the domain "za.co.za"
! which contains an illegal word. Please choose a different name.
    !
! Your upstream ISP should be able to assist you in this regard.
! If not - please contact the co.za support staff.

Why would za be marked as an illegal word? Why can't the domain be registered?

    Any thoughts?

    Interesting.

Me thinks it is reserved for uniforum.
The theoretical capacity of a Boeing 747 filled with Blu-ray Discs is 595,520,000 Gigabytes, resulting in a 245,829 Gbit/s flight from New York to Los Angeles.

So that a phisher can't go: absa.za.co.za and try and fool people into giving them their bank details? (although it doesn't take much to fool absa clients)

I doubt that, what about sa.co.za - ab.sa.co.za could also work, but the domain is registered.

There must be some other reason for reserving the domain me thinks....
