Thread: Recommendations for 3D Printing

    Default Recommendations for 3D Printing

I have a design that needs to be printed in 3D so that a mold or ten can be made from it. Most of the 3D printing places I found offer small items, and the others just haven't given me any feedback yet.

The item is solid, about the size of a 500ml Bottle.
Does anyone know what these 3D prints (There's 4 designs) will cost me?
    And any recommendations?

Yoh, that`s expensive, Can`t you get an art student to sculpt it?

Your best bet is to go for injection molding type solutions. These are pretty cheap in general, though you will have to shop around.

3D printing is still pretty expensive - takes a very long time to print, uses a lot of power, blah, blah, blah [Still a fan of the tech, built my own MakerBot] It's great for small objects, but 10" is about my max, and I already get warping at about 1-2" ...

SO I would use plaster or injection molding for anything not on a hobby level.

(To be honest - some times a bit of carpentry gets you way further way easier)

I can probably do it myself, but then I'll have to do some serious homework. If 3D printing was reasonable, I'd rather save the energy, pollute the planet and just order it. Maybe it's not as hard to sculpt as I think it is.

Can't be easier than submitting the 3D model and getting the real thing in the post. But if it will cost an arm and leg...
