Default House of the Year 2012

    http://www.houseandleisure.co.za/category/hoty/

Scroll down to see the 12 entries.

Most are quite ugly to me !

If I absolutely had to pick, it would be house number 1 or 8.

    You ?

Not much to choose from. At a stretch I would pick 7. Some of them are downright fugly imo

    1. dark kitchen, cluttered ceilings
    2. no way, that little step in the kitchen is a trap.
    3. not enough photos to judge
    4. flat roof, pass
    5. dark, reminds me of my grandparents place
    6. flat roof, pass
    7. wtf is this supposed to be
    8. rip off the wallpaper in the bedroom and maybe this has some potential
    9. looks like a nice place to live if you have to live between concrete buildings
    10. massive security risk is all I see here.
    11. flat roof again

Must say no idea how you are supposed to vote on that photos, showing/decorations furniture and not the actual house, can see the architect had a free hand in designing these, most of them are pretty impractical. If you have any kids at all these top 11 wont work.

My personal gripe is the flat roofs, build something with one and I will not even consider living there.

I love house 4,6 and especially 11. But that's because I just love contemporary architecture and décor

I like 4 and 6 but the photos are terrible. Of all of the houses.

They look nice, but not nice to live in. Form not following function.

Whats the fireplace in #7 supposed to do? besides looking tacky in 10 years, or burn down the wooden house

House 1 is in a beautiful location, but crap interior.

House 2 not so much to my taste, trying too hard to be "rustic" in my opinion

House 3 looks like it hasn't been updated since the 60's

House 4, very much on my kind of wavelength... do like

House 5 no thank you very much.. too busy.

House 6 just seems "bland".. do like the outside of the house, but yeah...

House 7 rocks my boat as well...

House 8 just doesn't do it at all for me...

House 9, no thanks not in the centre of JHB...

House 10, simply stunning.... Love the openness

    House 11 also stunning....

I've just come across number 2 and I really don't understand this obsession with striving to be so artistic that you eventually have your head wedged firmly up your own backside. This is clearly one of those houses where you take your shoes off because that's what they do in China. And then entertain your guests with riveting stories about why mould in ceiling corners is the next best thing in modern home decor. Morons...

Kevin McCloud annoyingly meets all of these twats these days instead of focusing on actual designs...

House #7 is beautiful. But the site director is an imbecile - instead of providing us with actual pictures of the houses, he/she has chosen to bore us with pics of their chairs and book-cases. Well done. That coffee-table most certainly swayed my vote...

And then we have house #9 - minimal to the point that books and coke cans are on the floor in the lounge. Nice...

What irks me about their bedroom is that the books on the shelves are colour coded .... since when are books decorative items to be arranged in order of colour ???
