Since I've started becoming more...comfortable shall we say, I find that I'd probably not go for a job that offers R10k more a month but has harsher working hours or less stimulating work. Priorities are shifting. I suppose when I have kids and the bills get larger every month, I may start becoming a greedy bastard again, but that's still a few years off. Who knows what'll happen between now and then.
Yeah, OK. I was laying on the "drama" a bit thick there.

I work for South Africa's best online retailer, the vibe is awesome and the work environment is great!

If you're wondering which retailer, it doesn't take a lot to figure it out ;-)

Gaining experience of the variety which is very difficult to duplicate outside of this particular line of work.

The fact that I'm not bored and approaching 3 years doing it. The constant challenges.

Why I love my job - well, I love to help people create their dream holidays, and then to read their comments and thanks afterwards - such a ultimately rewarding feeling of being able to make a dream come true
After twelve years of therapy my psychiatrist said something that brought tears to my eyes. He said, No hablo ingles.

I manage the family aluminium and glass business. Besides the fact that everytime I get my butt off the chair I am doing it for myself and the family (as opposed to making a boss / company rich) we have developed an amazing installation procedure whereby we replace steel windows in homes and offices with aluminium windows. The trick is that we do not chop the old steel frames out of the wall but angle grind the steel away, leaving the outerframe and the new aluminium window fits over the top. It means that the installation is a 100% clean operation and no need for plasterwork or painting and carries the same 15 year guarantee that normal aluminium windows carry. This system has blown East London away and I am extremely proud to be involved with it! The praise we have received from clients who leave for work in the morning with old "vrot" steel windows and come home in the evening to a new house is humbling!

Of course, working with family has it's challenges and the non family members sometimes have to block their ears when we are at war...... but it is 100% worth it!

EDIT: I was in tech support prior to joining the family business (MCSE qualified) but I just don't have the patience to put up with FOS pc's my whole life and it took the joy out of recreational tech for me!

Nothing, except the money. OK the people I work with as well, but my job is kind of monotonous. But hey it pays the bills

My old job was pretty rewarding but since I've packed it in to be a photographer I'm having an unbelievable amount of fun. My missus, bless her, stuck with my through some difficult times particularly in the beginning when I took a huge knock in salary but I'm making a name for myself and things are picking up nicely.

In the past year I've got to photograph three SA national teams, on and off the field, as well as countless international ones and other well known personalities. I only narrowly missed out on going to the olympics which would have been awesome - roll on Rio 2016!

I knew that, and indicated so in my quote ... just before you generalise and think that all teachers are hopelessly stupid.

If I really think about it, the one thing that makes me enjoy my line of work is that I am able to create stuff that function and "live" by themselves. Learning how to do things better and how not to do things again. Writing lots of stuff and fitting them together. It really is like playing legos but much more awesome!

Oh, and my code does help catch baddies at the borders and OR Tambo...so the long hours etc. are worth it
