Will this charger kill my tablet?

My HTC Flyer charger has died.

I've tried to use my phone charger (5V 1A) but it's like pissing against a waterfall.

Now the Flyer charger is rated as 9V 1.67A. It seems the highest voltage available is 5V. But I got one with 2.1A. Will this charger damage my Flyer?

No, won't damage, but won't charge either.

The device will only draw current by demand, and your charger must be able to deliver the current for the demand, which is the A figure. However the V figure is the potential, and without enough potential, the unit will not be able to get the charge.

Mabe you could download one of the datasheets for a 9V 2A PSU from the Mantech website and e-mail it along with your query to HTC. These chargers are usually just switching power supplies with the charging circuitry built into the phone etc. I wouldn't recommend using a cheap transformer type PSU such as the Ellies units which you can find at most chain stores as the ripple seems a bit high unless you are planning on adding an additional 1000uF capacitor to add additional smoothing. Mantech also offers a mail order service (look on BoB) or you could also look at www.rabtron.co.za to see if they have anything similar.
