Thread: Amobia and Kawuleza Pretoria East coverage?

  1. #1

Default Amobia and Kawuleza Pretoria East coverage?

I have done ample research and I still have no idea whether these Wisps cover the Pretoria East area (I'm based in Newlands, Pretoria).

As per the coverage map on Amobia's website, I fall within the "planned rollout" area. But this map hasn't been updated and the "planned rollout" was supposed to happen in June 2011. I contacted them telephonically but, although very friendly, the sales rep did not know if I fall within the coverage area. I filled in an online site survey and hopefully they will get back to me.

As for Kawuleza, same issue. Except there is no evidence of Pretoria coverage, but the technician said he would get back to me on whether there is LoS or not. I still haven't heard anything back from them yet.

I cannot go the ADSL option as there are no ports available on my exchange and I'm tired of Telkom's incompetence.

If these two above are not an option, is there any other Wisps which is affordable and has coverage in PTA east? I am looking for a simple 1Mbps residential service with a 3gig cap.

    Many thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind. Neither Kawuleza nor Amobia have coverage in my area. Dammit! I live right by Menlyn. Why is there no damn coverage!!?

I did however get in contact with Wipronet. They have an affordable package and they apparently specialise in the Pretoria East area... They're coming for a signal test/site survey at the end of the day. Here's holding thumbs...

Try going to the Wireless Access Provider's Website, (www.wapa.org.za) and click on the map on the right hand side in the colour of the SA flag, marked coverage. Type in your request, together with your address, and let our members contact you if they offer coverage there.
