Alleged Telkom Sales Call

Good day to all.

This is officially my first thread and post.

I hope that I am in fact posting in the right category, please correct me if I am wrong admin.

And If a similar question has been posted and I missed it, sorry, again please just correct me or point me in the right direction.

This morning I was called by Telkom or a sales consultant claiming that she is calling on behalf of Telkom.

She asked if I have an ADSL line and a land line, which I have, but not registered to my name as I am co-habitating at the moment.

When I asked the consultant where she/ Telkom got my number from (which I have never given to them in any form), the phone was promptly put down in my ear without an answer.

I am very diligent when it comes to divulging my personal details, and only do so when it is absolutely necessary and even then I check credentials to the point of paranoia.

My question is;

Has this happened to anybody else recently?

And if so,
Does anybody have an idea where they might have phished ( pun intended ) out such details?

Its most likely that cold calling scam thats been going around, they start off by posing as Telkom and asking if you can do a "Survay"

Two weeks later you get a call from "Microsoft" stating that they have detected malware/virus/worm on your system and they want to help you remove it for a fee...

Might have been.
In this case it seemed like they were trying to pose as a Sales rep from Telkom.

If it was a genuine sales call from Telkom, it was a remarkably bad sales call, which would be typical.
