DC3 is good, I get most of my components from there. But their prices aren't always that great, especially on storage.

I would check at Esquire or Takealot

I used to get most of my components from Rebel Tech but now I get them from NGRComputers. Best customer service in the country.

Posted in a diff post but def. worth mentioning, Dynamic support - http://www.facebook.com/dynamicsupp , service is empecable as well as their prices are great, The online store will be up soon. They are currently running a ( like this page promotion ) where a random fan could win a prize, i highly recommend their services. They do all sorts of hardware, from SSD's / Alienware to Hard drives and more, check them out I'll definately purchase again from these guys.

    OCZ Agility 3 120GB

    Rebeltech: R1066
    Sybaritic: R1114

Also check rockbottom.co.za, they're busy fixing up their site right now but I remember them being quite cheap.

However I haven't bought from them so I don't really know what their service is like.

I haven't bought anything from NGR, but their service is unreal.

At some point I was looking for a very specific notebook bag and they really went the extra mile to try and source one for me, even though it was already EOL. I can't remember the guy's name, but he kept me updated whenever he heard back from their suppliers etc. I was really impressed with not only the professionalism, but the speed at which they handled queries as well as the effort that was put in, even though it was unlikely that they would find what I was unlikely that they would find what I was looking for.

Definitely worth checking them out as well - at least you can be quite sure that you will receive excellent service.

I went for the vertex 4 in the end but no I think I should have saved my cash and just got the vertex 3

Firstly, my MB is only SATA3, so I don't get the full speed. Its flipping fast, don't get me wrong but I might as well have paid less for the vertex 3.
Also looks like my MB only supports up to 800mhz DDR2 with a maximum of 4 gigs. This is bloody annoying, I hope I'm wrong because I was really not planning on a full MB and RAM upgrade any time soon. Now because of this I can't really disable the swap space in case I run out of memory. With 8 gig's I rate it would be fine but 4 gig is cutting is close.

The other thing is that I could pick up something like this second hand http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...aspx?pid=3013#

Can you not just plug in a PCI-E SATA3 Controller card, and move the pagefile to a HDD (instead of SSD) ?

EDIT: BTW, SATA3 = 6Gbps, so I assume you meant SATA2 in your post (=3Gbps)

By 8 gig I was referring to the amount of RAM, not the speed of the SSD.

I was wondering about putting the swap space on my normal drive, wont that completely invalidate me having an SSD ?
or will it only only kick in when I run out of memory ?

Because the page file is accessed to much, it's recommended to move it to a normal drive. I am sure you won't notice the difference, but your SSD will last longer.

I think we're misunderstanding each other . I was making reference to your statement that your MB only supports SATA3. I was just pointing out that SATA3 is 6Gbps and therefore this WILL give you max speed on your SSD. Unless, you made a typo and your MB in fact only supports SATA2, which runs at 3Gbps and therefore a PCI-E SATA3 controller will be cheaper than a new MB etc.

Again, I assumed you are worried about the lifespan of the SSD and therefore prefer not to run the pagefile on the SSD. The pagefile is used to store older memory allocations to disk when you are running low on memory. So, yes, the pagefile to predominantly used when you run out of memory.

Personally, I think the whole debate about the lifespan of the SSD is overrated. Apart from a few very basic tweaks, I don't think it's really neccesary to be overly worried about wearing out the SSD. I'm still running my pagefile, temp files etc. etc. on my SSD.

LOL yes... I see where we crossed wires. It was a typo, I meant Sata2. My drive supports sata3 and my MB supports sata2

Then I wont worry. This was my concern but realistically this thing needs to last 3 years. All my important data is on the other drive that will now be working a lot less.
