Sidenote: You leave your iPad on your car seat?
    +1

Just line the port with some toilet paper in case you touch the sides.

Were you driving with the headphones on ? That's also quite dangerous.... but I see you like living on the edge anyway.

Can you post a picture of what it looks like broken off ? because I'm wondering what has actually broken

I'll see if I can take a pic... lighting and position makes it difficult.

Doesn't usually have the headphones on... but as Murphy would have it - this time it did.

Why is driving with headphones on dangerous?

Centrafugal force will prevent plug rotation if its being "held" by casing.

That will probably damage the pickups.

get a toothpick or other stick, break it so it has a flat surface! Apply glue to stick and slowly put stick into hole, hold carefully while drying and pull!

Because most headphones plug your ears and you can't hear important things happening around you.
Deaf people find it a huge problem

Loud music focused in your ears actually also a problem, so generally its a not a great idea.

I see people with headphones on a bike or running and I want to cringe... thats flipping mad

That is why blind people do not drive.

Interesting, never really thought about it that way. What about motorbike helmets? I've only worn one for go karting and I couldn't hear ****.

Well - finally got round to it again last night.. when looking at the headphone jack, I saw it was still in one piece Then realised it wasn't the headphone jack, but one of those plastic stylus pens that store in the headphone socket

I tried everything, super-glue, tweezers, nail file, needles - I eventually got frustrated - and hammered a pin in breaking pieces off until enough was broken that it crumbled and well out

No damage to ipad fortunately, and lesson learnt.
