Did insurance specifically ask that an alarm be fitted? As a condition of cover, I mean.
If they are just being anal about security, maybe get your friend to give the company a call to hear what options she has. AFAIK if you do not have an alarm, but have a tracker installed, then they accept that. Just get a slight reduction in premium for each security measure in place.
R180 odd bucks per month is a heck of a lot easier on cash flow than forking out R1400+. More in the long run, but as I say, easier on cash flow.
