Thread: MWEB slashes 10Mbps uncapped ADSL price; launches 2Mbps uncapped ADSL service

Does anyone have the faintest idea on what it means if you move from Mweb to Afrihost? Afrihost's favourite word is throttling. Then run your account on a 7 day rolling window. So if you use more than a certain amount of data within those 7 days, your account with be moved to a certain shaping rule. Where they will cap you to about 50% of the full line speed.

When I was with them a few months ago on the 1mbps uncapped, then shaped me after the first week and my line speed stayed at 50% for the next 3 weeks. So I called them and told them that I was only recieving 50% of my line speed and the guy said that their systems didn't reset my shaping policy after the fisrt week ok shaping. This happened 3 times. And after that I moved to Mweb, where I could download as I wished. No throttling.

    Think again

Mwebs bandwidth is way better than Afrihost. The phrase you get what you pay for does apply here.

Not good news for me it seems ...

Replied to you in the other thread:

That to me was also the magic number. Guess I will be doing the 1Mb thing a bit longer then..

    +1

I thought I'd be upgrading again this year, but looks like I'll be staying at 1mb for quite a while. Still it could be worse! (384kbps)

If it gets throttled, it is not uncapped. Shaping and throttling are from the devil.

I was also hoping for a 2Mb price of around R299, but i guess R70 more is not too much.
From my experience, although Afrihost is not bad, MWEB at this stage just seems that tad bitter better. I'll be keeping an eye on the situation, but for the moment I think I'll stay with MWEB.

I'm confused about the 1Mb uncapped price change, it says on my account that I still have to pay R488pm for mine and to sign up for a new line is R366 pm? I don't want to be upgraded, I would like to just pay less.
