So let me get this straight ... Afrihost charges R997 per month for just a 10 Mbps Uncapped Account, but R 897 for a 10 Mbps Uncapped Account budnled with a 10 Mbps ADSL Line.
I.e. So in essence they pay you R100 to take an ADSL line through them instead of you paying them?

What's the catch ... is it a short-run special, or a first month thing?

How difficult is it to swap between providers of your line ... can I tell Telkom today I am moving from them to Afrihost, and my line is moved without hassle immediately ... and visa versa?

If there is no catches, and this is indeed the case ... I may just sign up
Will be a CA by year end ... Anyone with any business opportunities

I've been on that bundle since it was launched. No catch.
You don't need to tell telkom anything to transfer to afrihost. They will take care of it.

yes what would also be great is if Mweb drops there 4mb uncapped bundle. I doesnt make sence to drop your top end 10MB uncapped line by R1000 to R999 but then you leave the price of the 4mb uncapped line unchanged @ R899 which is like double the speed???

To be honest I don't personally use the line during the day as I'm at work so i can't comment too much. However, sick beard scheduled nzb transfers that run between 8 and 9 am generally average 620kb/sec on my 6 meg line.

    Thats not quite accurate.. 10mb data-only went from R1999 to R999, and 4mb data-only remains at R539

    The R899 price you're quoting is 4mb data+line

See my earlier post regarding afrihost's download speeds

I'm pretty disappointed with this. In reality, doubt I would use any more data if my line was upgraded from 1 mb to 2 mb, so why should I pay so much more? Telkom have made a great move by upgrading the linespeed, but the ISPs have failed by not keeping up. 2 mb uncapped at R199 should now be considered the base package in SA, and maybe we can close the gap to the first world by just a tiny bit!

and how bad is mweb throttling/shaping on the 10Mbit option? during office hours and off peak hours

Was thinking the same but greed triumphs logic, same thing everywhere in SA

Mweb dont throttle at all, and as far as I know, their shaping policies are the same as their 4mb uncapped's (which are better than Afrihost's)

The only reason I'm choosing Afrihost for 10mb is that they are R462 pm cheaper than Mweb's 10mb line+data (and R3 pm cheaper than Mweb's 4mb line+data).. Mweb's network is still superior overall, but I cant afford R1359pm for 10mb, otherwise I'd still be with Mweb

NZBs with Afrihost are unshaped 24hrs (Astraweb, 3 x servers, 18 connections), and thats what swayed me

This news is just in time for me to put in my cancellation request before the end of the month. I will give Afrihost a go.

Most of MWEB’s competitors have some form of throttling on their networks which negatively affects users’ Internet experience. MWEB does not throttle! We optimise our network via shaping policies but we do not penalise individual users based on their specific behaviour, allowing us to deliver the best possible internet experience to subscribers on our network.
You might believe it, but I do not. Sorry, you will receive my cancellation letter tomorrow.

Whatever the speed - 10MB or 4MB in Bryanston, we get 3.67 and 0.42 on MWEB. Until Telkom does something about attenuation on their lines all these discussions are academic...The upload is so unstable that it makes it impossible to watch youtube during the day, for instance....
