Hi guys, just looking to see if someone else can answer this question for me.
I have been with Mweb for about 2 - 3 months now, very happy with product and services. I have been monitoring the news and broadband to see what will happen regarding price cuts as everyone has for a while now and was very excited to see that yet again Mweb ahs step'd up and dropped the pricing on the 1mb uncapped all inclussive product from R488 to R339. now maybe I am wrong ( so please correct if so) but I just recieved my invoice from Mweb for August 2012 and total for invoice R488.00 ?????????
I thought I was suppose to pay R339.00 ????? So I contacted Billing and account support. A very helpful lady tried to assist me, but could only say that no I will be UPGRADED to 2mb Uncapped, this to Justify me paying R488.00 and not the advertised R339.00. BUT....... the line will only be udgraded at or torwards the end of August....???????

So now it seems I am paying for a product that is not available, neot evens advertised, but I have to pay R488.00???? A bit confusing, don't you think?

So they are rewarding all ex 384kb clients by upgrading them to 1mb but (Unless I am the only one and an oversight) I feel I am getting..... what? .... punished for using the product???

Just looking for a bit of clearification since the Mweb representative I spoke to could not explain and said she would have to invetigate and get back to me.

1MB clients will be upgraded to 2MB, you pay R599, if you don't want that , call billing/accounts, they will "downgrade" you to 1MB. Easy.

For MWeb's sake, I truly hope they don't upgrade the clients without consent, as all hell will break loose

TL;DR I noticed this too, I'm currently on 1mb uncapped @ R488, I see the updated prices saying R339, now I would personally prefer to spend less on my 1mb PM than get automatically upgraded to 2mb. Can MWEB Guy please clarify?

Hi Guys

I’m sorry for this rather lengthy explanation, but I have had several questions around this issue and I wanted to try and field them as thoroughly as possible :)

Firstly remember that on an all Uncapped all-inclusive bundle you are paying for 2 components. Uncapped Data Speed + Telkom Line Speed.

In terms of Telkom line speed Telkom effectively have 3 products :

• Fast - Currently 384k, changing to up to 1mb
• Faster - Currently 1mb, changing to up to 2mb
• Fastest – up to 10mb

So if you look at our current uncapped bundles what you effectively have is this:

• 384k Uncapped + Fast DSL for R339.00
• 1mb Uncapped + Faster DSL for 488.00

You also need to remember that In June we did away with our 384k data only products and dropped the price on our 1mb products by R100.00.

All Inclusive customers on 384k however did not get the speed increase as we could not make the decision for them to upgrade their lines to 1mb, due to the price difference.

However now that we have confirmation that these lines will be increased to 1mb at no rental cost change all we have effectively done is enabled their products for 1mb speeds at the same price point, which aligns the all-inclusive pricing with data only.

By the same token in June the price of 1mb all-inclusive was dropped by R100.00 Rand to align it with the new 1mb data cost of R199-00.

Now that we have confirmation that Telkom will be increasing the Faster DSL speed from 1mb to 2mb, with no change in the line rental price, we have introduced new 2mb Uncapped products which have the following pricing:

• 2mb Uncapped Data Only – R369.00
• 2mb Uncapped All Inclusive R599.00

As you can see the data cost on 2mb Uncapped is R170-00 more than it is for 1mb.

This means that for the customers currently paying R488.00 for 1mb Uncapped + Faster DSL (1mb lines) we cannot automatically move you to a 2mb Uncapped bundle as it is strictly against our policy to automatically move customers to a higher cost product.

By the same token we cannot automatically move these customers down to the R339-00 product as they are in fact paying for a 1mb + Faster DSL bundle, which is eligible for a line speed upgrade to 2mb.

This therefore leaves the choice firmly in the hands of the customer come the 1st of August:

• For just R170-00 more you can double your speeds and move up to a 2mb Uncapped + Faster DSL bundle.

• You can reduce your expenditure and move down to the 1mb Uncapped + Fast DSL bundle, priced at R339-00.

• Or you can stay on your current bundle, which is 1mb Uncapped + Faster DSL priced at R488.00.

The 3rd of these is not the recommended solution as we don’t believe that it offers significant performance differences, however some customers may have good reason to stay on 1mb Uncapped with a 2mb line – the choice is in your hands.

Kind Regards
Will

You lost me. Now why isn't the R488 on your price list then if its a separate product? What the difference between the 2?

Hi ChocolateBadger

The R339 account is a 1Mb uncapped data and an up to 1Mb adsl line.

The R488 account is 1Mb uncapped data and an up to 2Mb adsl line.

Once Telkom increases the line speed from 1Mbps to 2Mbps, customers on the ‘old’ 1Mbps data product will be capable of receiving marginally faster speeds.

It's not on the price list because it will essentially be a legacy product. Our bundled products are Uncapped product matched with appropriate line speed.

Customers who will be on 1mb Uncapped + 2mb line can choose to stay there if they don't want to move up or down, but this is not a product we will sell going forward.

I'm calling a whole lot of BS. All inclusive customers rent the line from MWEB and not Telkom. We pay MWEB, NOT telkom for the line. When we signed up for the 1mb data/line option a couple of months ago, it was 1mb data + 1mb line. It was not this "1mb data with up to 2mb line" bs that you're talking about now. It's a very clever way for MWEB to steal money in my opinion. How many people are going to be hoodwinked into paying R488 a month when they're on a 1mb data but a 2mb line? Come off it...

You're lost....

Mweb will be selling this:

a)1/2/4/10Mbps accounts on their own
b) 1/2/4/10Mbps accounts together with a 1/2/4/10Mbps line.
They won't be offering 1Mb accounts with 2Mb lines (as they've stated).

You're lost. How many people do they have currently on the 1mb data/line(R488p/m)? And how many of those people don't follow facebook/mybroadband daily?

Those are the people who will stay on 1mb data and the "2mb line"(which will be useless to them) and paying a lot more for it...

If I didn't check the mybroadband news today, I wouldn't have noticed to be honest...

Hi CuriouS

I understand your concerns but I can assure you that we will communicate this awesome news to our customer base.
So if you didn't hear about via word of mouth or a social media media platform, you'll soon hear about it via email from MWEB. ;)

Once Telkom increases the line speed from 1Mbps to 2Mbps, customers on the ‘old’ 1Mbps data product will be capable of receiving marginally faster speeds.

So by that logic, I would by paying R152 difference for a faster 2Mb Telkom line but still get speed controlled to 1Mb by Mweb? That to me seems silly. Is the speed I'm currently getting on my R488 1Mb line will be the same speed as I would get with the R336 1Mb line?

You'll actually get a 10-15% speed boost due the the overheads being removed.
