Default Man makes guns with a 3D printer

    http://www.slashgear.com/man-makes-g...nter-25240293/

Just the lower receiver was made with the 3D printer, these are usually made from aluminum forgings which are then machined. The lower still requires a Lower Parts Kit including the fire control group [trigger, disconnector, hammer, etc] and many pins, springs, detents, and proprietary parts all made from metal to operate. The lower receiver is the only registered part of the firearm and "stripped" lowers [lowers with no parts in them yet] are regularly sold for about $100-150 with a background check just like one would perform for a complete firearm.
Ok, so not a complete gun but how is that?

I don't know how well a plastic gun would work, curious though.

They have made this stuff realy strong...as we learn more about chemistry and compositions we can create stronger materials

I get that, but the glocks are made from a custom plastic, the plastic in the 3d printer is el-chepo abs.

Would it even be possible to get your hands on the right plastic and then would it work in these 3d printers. Don't think it would be very easy.

ABS's light weight and ability to be injection molded and extruded make it useful in manufacturing products such as drain-waste-vent (DWV) pipe systems, musical instruments (recorders, plastic clarinets, and piano movements), golf club heads (due to its good shock absorbance), automotive trim components, automotive bumper bars, medical devices for blood access, enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies, protective headgear, whitewater canoes, buffer edging for furniture and joinery panels, luggage and protective carrying cases, small kitchen appliances, and toys, including Lego bricks.[8]

ABS plastic ground down to an average diameter of less than 1 micrometer is used as the colorant in some tattoo inks.[citation needed] Tattoo inks that use ABS are extremely vivid. This vividness is the most obvious indicator that the ink contains ABS, as tattoo inks rarely list their ingredients.[9]

ABS is also commonly used in rapid prototyping extrusion-based 3D printers. Its glass transition temperature makes it a material of choice for rapid prototyping — relatively high as to reduce unwanted deformation at slightly elevated temperatures but low enough to be safely attainable with standard extrusion setups.

well you can have it printed in silver or even stainless steel:

if you want stronger, the print can be used as a base for a mold

    Being aware it's a gun?

Do you need a gun license to buy gun spares in SA?

I'm assuming the frame/receiver would require a license but what about all the other parts that make up a gun?
