Thread: Sybaritic review - 2 years and counting

Thumbs up Sybaritic review - 2 years and counting

I've spent a lot of money with these guys over the past two years (possibly 100k) and can truly say they are the best at what they do. Recently I purchased R18,000+ worth of I7 PC: CPU, RAM, monitor etc. My wife went to collect it (I had a spinal op and can't drive for now) and when she brought it home, the CPU and DVD writer were missing. It was Friday.

Monday she promptly returned to Sybaritic where they apologized profusely and gave her the missing parts of the order. No questions asked.

Many companies would have simply stated "sorry, we have a signed delivery note .... you signed for everything. Cheers buddy" (I know, I've been there!).

Thank you Graham and staff for running an honest company.

(I'm nearly 60 and this is the first time I've written a review of any kind for another company which in itself should say something

    Bollocks.Sybaritic sucks.Never again.

    Placed order
    Wait for stock confirmation
    Confirm stock on all parts.
    Eft funds immediately
    ...and then the horror starts.
Suddenly one by one parts suddenly are out of stock,to the point there's only 2 left.
    Cancel the order,request refund
    No refund,just credit.
Decided its not worth it,use the credit and tell them to go **** themselves.

Sorry to hear you were not satisfied.

I also had to wait. Chose only items that were marked as 'supplier has stock' and some turned out not to be the case. However, one phone call and I swapped the stuff that was not available for stuff that was.

One item - a TV remote - was broken but I'd already tossed the box. No problem. They collected it by courier, and replaced it at their cost. Two days. That's more than fair in my book.

If you want to take out your wallet and buy "off the shelf" and take it home the same day, you should not use online stores - that's how they work: their overheads are low because they don't keep any stock at all. You can't blame them for not having an item "in stock" when they don't keep any; if the supplier suddenly sells the item, you wait. That's how online works.

i ordered many times from them in the past, good service, but yeah when there is a return, they don't refund, only credit you and you are forced to buy other stuff from them.

That is what the OP seems to not have a problem with, after he gave me that "How online stores works" lesson.

You payment is based on their confirmation of stock. There should not even be a problem for a refund.I believe they are using that confirmation to trick you into making a payment, which they'll force into a credit.

That is illegal, but like i said,i felt it was just not worth it.

    **** Sybaritic.

If a supplier is out of stock, it is not their fault mate. It is impossible to keep a 100% accurate stock count on 3000+ products daily, weekly, or even monthly at times.

The refund part, that's where they fell short, as mentioned. In store credit as opposed to a refund is a no go, as they lose next to nothing if it was done via EFT. However, as soon as an online store starts using paygates like payfast and the like, they end up losing bewteen 2 and 5% per order. This is deadly to a business selling PC components, as their markup is so tiny.

I can also honestly say that I never had any problems with Sybaritic. There was one time I had to wait a bit but that was not their fault, it was the suppliers.

Agreed, my first time and only time trying to purchase something from them was a disaster. Product confirmed to be in stock, paid, waited, a couple of days and never received the item. I had to phone them to hear that the product was out of stock and it then took me about 2 days to get my money back as well after threatening them with legal action.

Even the OP is praising them for some odd reason for them short supplying an order on a Friday and trying to take a chance with his less tech-savvy wife.

Not giving a refund is illegal in terms of the CPA, AFAIK.

Won't bother going through my ****ty service with them... its well documented on the forum.

I have never received anything but great service from them, come to think of it they were my first online shopping store, opened the door for my online shopping habits.

    Great service guys.

Forget the CPA, not providing goods for fees paid is breach of contract.

Can't believe people actually put up with not getting their money back.

only ever had good service from them they even upgraded a PSU for free for me, because the one they got to build the system was DOA. So they used a better one they had in stock.
