I wonder what the south african institute of race relations are doing about white privilege.

Whiteness or western society has become so normalised and taken for granted by whites that other cultures and experiences have been marginalised to accommodate the dominant white norm. You can see this everyday when people of colour start talking about oppression and subjugation; there will always be whites who say "let's talk about something fun" or "let's not talk about racial inequality and white privilege.” Even the language I'm speaking has been normalised. This is why white people view English as THE NORM when black people see it as a white language.

Whiteness is still the standard or the default race in the same way that the numberless ball on the pool table is the default or standard ball. When you hear a foreigner talking about the "south african accent" they are actually referring to the accent of a whitey even though this is a country with a population that is 80% black. Just goes to show how powerful whiteness still is.

it is the standard simply because white south africans travel and have family overseas. it is the standard because the majority of all things fun, decent and useful are western and by default english. someone talking about the evils of homosexuality in a group circle and of course the homosexual will want to change the topic. i understand white priviledge but your argument is pathetic. think of the reasons for these things instead of wallowing and lickign your own wounds. people move on everyday from terrible things happening to them. i'm not asking you to forget, i'm asking you to make yourself into something and stop blaming other people, specifically an entire race

The institute does not have to do anything about "white privilege". You are what you make of yourself. If our black brothers and sisters had a similar opportunity to get a slice of the pie, through education and hard work, they would consider themselves as privileged as white people.

The apartheid era has long gone and an entire generation has grown up without apartheid laws. If our new leaders had the foresight to apply themselves in a meaningful fashion to the job of properly educating every child in the country, we would be overtaking many other countries who, despite the economic climate, still manage to achieve 7%-8% growth.
