On 2012-06-06 I paid R 1,000 for 797.0kWh = 125.47 cents/unit VAT incl.
On 2012-07-02 I paid R 1,000 for 725.5kWh = 137.83 cents/unit
On 2012-07-23 I paid R 1,200 for 750.9kWh = 159.80 cents/unit
That is, as well as I can calculate, a roughly 27.5% increase in energy cost over the course of less than 2 months, and my wallet is hurting. I know that the City of Cape Town did increase tariffs at the beginning of July, but that doesn't explain why I've had to endure TWO increases.
According to the City's website, there is an additional surcharge if you use >= 1,500 kWh/month - but I know I don't fall into that bracket. So that's not the reason.
Anyone able to advise why the double increase? I buy my electricity through www.ibuy.co.za if that is any help.
