Poor ADSL - Randpark Ridge

Hi Guys,

i have been battling years now with my adsl line at home, where it barely makes the 1024k speed, as i'm just to far away from the exchange, my exchange is Aasvoelkop all the way on the other side of the highway by Cresta, now that is quite a distance away. i badly need to upgrade the speed of this, as its to slow, i can barely stream a youtube video for longer than 10 seconds before buffering..

Recently I learned that Telkom installed a mini exchange just down the road from me in Weltevreden park, and was wondering how i can go about getting Telkom to move my line there so i can be closer, as that mini dslam/exchange is about 2 kms away from me?

not sure where to go and how to go about it, as ive been trying with Telkom without much success in anything i'm so fed up and the problem is there is no real other alternative for broadband where i live that is actually stable and worth looking at.

any help would be appreciated.

you can ask them for wireless options. but i dont think they will .......... i am facing congested problems as big factories are connected to that exchange in our area so. in weekdays its hell. your Line Attenuation is very bad. mine sitting at 40.:twisted:

Your Noise Margin is OK, but your attenuation is the worst I have seen in a very long time. :wtf:

Attenuation:

* 20bB. and below = Outstanding
* 20dB-30dB. = Excellent
* 30dB-40dB. = Very Good
* 40dB-50dB. = Good
* 50dB-60dB. = Poor and may experience connectivity issues
* 60dB. and above = Bad and will experience connectivity issues <-- Well there is your problem!



You are like 4.6km from the exchange which is way too far IMO.

I registered here just to answer you, I'm browsing around to see what I can see right now. I'm on the weltevreden park exchange you mentionand and trust me on this, it is absolutely horrible. My line syncs perfectly at 4mb, had awesome speeds only a short while ago, but at the moment it's so overloaded (my opinion), that I often struggle to get 0.5mbps, nevermind the 4m I'm supposed to be getting. When I hit 1mb I'm almost giddy.

I don't think you should be overly enthusiastic about this yourself until at least I can figure out what the problem is here, and after months of getting techs out, doing tests, spending afternoons on the phone with telkom.... all indications are that it's the exchange, and telkom are extremely loathe to admit there's a problem. They seem more keen right now to close my tickets without my knowledge and generally ignore me.

FWIW: if there are other people (in weltevreden) experiencing this I'd like to know.
