This looks pretty close to the final phone to me. In some ways i'm more impressed by the long iphone 4 design than i thought i would be.

Why longer only?
Had an iPhone 3G and currently a 4. This design leaves me cold.
Think I'll be going for the Samsung Note 2 next.
Looks exactly the same as any other iPhone. Meh.

I'm not sure to be honest. Apple generally think these thing through, so i'm quite interested to see how they use the odd shaped screen real estate. For us geeks i agree its a bit tame, as we would prefer something like the galaxy s3 with its bigger screen and customizability, but for the man on the street who needs a phone which is pocketable it'll still be a strong contender.
It looks like Sir Jonny has been busy elsewhere since designing the original iPhone 4. It looks like the Apple design studio has run out of ideas. Maybe Sony should help 'em again.
I still prefer iphone3gs to iphone4, the formfactor is bad. It was iphone3gs that got me hooked, and the OS is superb.
I have read rumours that the screen is getting a touch wider too, more from bezel to bezel. Will add like 2mm X vs 10mm Y.

I don't like the two tone colour, but I guess if you slap a cover on it, it won't matter.

All the air vents at the bottom suggests that they still struggled with the CPUs overheating.....
And the reason why the original iPhone 5 got canned and a reworked iPhone 4 got dubbed the 4S.
hmm, my contract expires on wednesday. Must organise myself a 4S while the going is good. If this is the iPhone 5 I don't want it.
But then again, every year around this time we have these disinformation campaigns, and case makers lose millions because they jumped the gun and based their designs on fakes that might even have been leaked by Apple itself.
The iPhone already has a retina display. It was the first Apple gadget to get one. So that by itself is no reason to make it longer only.
But yes, if by "HD" you mean "able to show movies without displaying black bars". Of course, that makes it worse for reading e-books, websites and so on. If watching video is something you do a lot of on a phone, this would be an improvement. Personally, I don't, and it isn't.
