Thread: MyUS/Shipito

    Default MyUS/Shipito

    Hi all

Anyone had any experience with MyUS or Shipito? I'm thinking of shipping an XSPC RX480 from amazon.com to here (since there's no one in SA who currently keeps stock of one). The only difference I can find is that Shipito offers a wider range of couriers to choose from, with some at cheaper prices than MyUS.

    Thanks in advance,
    Duff-Man

I don't know about MyUS but i use Shipito quiet a lot (about 15 times a year). I've never had a problem with them. One time my parcel went missing, 6 months later i got an email from them saying it returned to them and they offered to re-ship it for free.

Just for future reference, have you used USPS/Airmail, if so how good would you say their service was?

You say 15 times a year? Do you have like an importers code with SARS? I know the limit is 3 imports a year so does this mean if you use MyUS there's no limit?

Way cheaper if you are using MyUS/Shipto:

Ive imported so much stuff through ebay, and have never had any issues with SARS in that regard. Is it not only for businesses who tend to sell the product that they imported?

And when i say so much stuff, I am talking numerous items every month from different people. (Comic books)

Duties and tax still apply with MyUS and Shipto correct? As in the full amount?

    Yes.

Takealot will also include tax, and they add significant markup.

Will be cheaper to either use MyUs or Shipito or if you can find it on Amazon.

Yes I've used all the shipping options they have available for SA. Try and avoid DHL and FedEx if you can unless you like paying custom duties and clearing fees.

Airmail Priority is my favorite when i'm in no hurry otherwise USPS is more affordable than DHL & FedEx and just as quick

I've been importing stuff for many years now (for personal use) I've never been asked/needed the importers code

Use dhl unless you are happy to wait a few weeks.

You can also track it on their site and they clear it for you, all you need to do is pay them for the clearing. Imported many ssd's using myUS.

Importing stuff from the US is easier than most people think. I recently bought a GTX 670 and OCZ 120GB SSD etc. from amazon through MyUS, this was the first time I had to pay tax on the items (electronics are not charged duties, only 14% of 110% of item value, 115.8%. plus ~R100 customs admin) I tracked my items from amazon to MyUS in florida and then 3 days to SA. Had to pay DHL the tax and then it was delivered to me. 30% saved on retail price in SA, including delivery and taxes. I paid R800 to deliver a 2.5 kg parcel.

Note: ask to remove invoice from parcel and you might not get charged tax, happened for me the every other time.
Also if you need to warranty an item you may need to pay delivery to the US.
