How do I decline an offer that I already accepted

Who was the first to notice that You have a financial problem? Was it the Manager or the HR?

You did the right thing by accepting the offer, Ur a loyal employee, U help Ur company when it is in need, but the problem is, if Ur company only noticed Ur financial problem when U submitted a resignition that could be a major light to Ur skill and service towards the company.

But this is a stupid thing to do, you accepting the offer and the company offering an increment when U have to departure, these is all stupidity.

Do not take the increment if U want to stay, but if U want a name tag, take the increment & stay. I would suggest that U leave if U need a career development, because money is not the only compensation, there are other resolutions and benefits in other companies.

Unless the increase can increase Ur savings

I will +1 to what everyone has said. Never accept a counter offer. The fact that you had resigned shows you were not happy, why would that now change? Money only gives an individual a certain amount of satisfaction, and if they are only willing to pay you your worth now after you resigned, that shows they were taking you for a ride. Good chance you will accept the offer and resign in any case shortly down the line.

I actually learned a lot in this thread by the other posters and statistics given, which I verified with Google.

I am changing my opinion on the matter and going with the information to say that you won't be happy staying on and accepting the counter offer. You had valid reasons to leave, which won't change with more money in your pocket and this will most likely make you a miserable employee.

All the best to you however whatever you decide.

Why would they wait for the last day of your notice period to make a counter offer?

As other have said your next pay increase may already reflect their sudden 'generosity'

Where did this position magick from, if you have spoken to them about this before then one must wonder what suddenly changed? And what happens once you're promoted to specialist and realise that is now the glass ceiling?

Why did they not offer you this before you resigned or worst the day you gave the letter?

The were prepared to keep you on peanuts coz you were probably already doing the work.

Reputation wise staying with the current offer is the worst thing you can do in such a small industry. You are 2 days away from starting a new job and should never consider a counter-offer. Your new employer probably went through great effort finding the right candidate and by you accepting the counter offer, you have just closed one door and place that future employer in an uncomfortable position (i.e. having to re-run interviews and selection process). Your current employer just provides promises - it's easy to pay a few more K's to keep you around, but I doubt that they will all of a sudden develop a career-plan for you if there was no career prospect before. Just move on - this shows a great deal of integrity and professionalism.
