Thread: Explain this to me. Motorcycle service intervals.

  1. #1

Default Explain this to me. Motorcycle service intervals.

Why does a Honda CBX 250 have a service interval of 3000 km when a Honda E-Storm 125 has a service interval of 4000 km?

Would logic not dictate that the larger displacement engine and larger price tag warrant a less frequent service interval?

Even Motomia's cheap Chinese 150 rip off claims service every 4000 km.

Even Honda's 125cc scooters have 4000 km service intervals.

    At a genuine loss here.

I think the service interval is based on price. More you pay, the more often they can rip you for a service. You do want to keep the warranty on your expensive bike don't you.

Also bigger engine, more impurities in the oil ?? Spark plugs burn out quicker ?

A service does not touch the engine, it's oil filter and sparkies. The more hard work those components do the more they fail, so more power more fail.

Time for a BMW, 10 000km service intervals

If trees could scream would we be so cavalier about cutting them down. What if they screamed all the time for no reason?

What's even weirder is that the CBR 250R's service intervals are only every 12 000km.

Ducati - 10,000km intervals or as soon as it breaks

If I would have to guess, I would say its because the CBX is a DOHC which means more moving parts, slightly higher performance / stress on engine internal components. The E-storm looks like a SOHC straightforward engine with 2 valves. The CBX has more valves, more gears, so all in all just more mechanical wear.

For the same reason that 10K service intervals on cars all of a sudden jump to 20k as soon as maintenance plans are involved.
When did ignorance become a point of view ?.

    I love your signature.

Still waiting for a phone call. I could phone and be a hassle, but really I'm not that type of person and it's not going to benefit me.
