You go to account settings and select "deactivate". You won't get a refund though.

You can only "deactivate" your Facebook account you can not "cancel" or "delete" it.

At the top right click on the arrow pointing down. Then go to "Account Settings" Then click "Security" on the left, then in the middle click "Deactivate your account."

Deleting your facebook account seems impossible to do, but it is possible.

What you do is you go to Facebook Help.

From there, type in "delete account", look for the relevant result. Then it will ask you to type in your password to authenticate the deleting of your facebook account. It will say that it will delete your account after 2 days (something like that, i cant remember, i deleted my account a long time ago). Just do not login for those days, and your account is now deleted from facebook.
