    Uncapped ADSL price cuts

Over the last few weeks numerous ISPs have cut the price of their uncapped ADSL products. This is how these prices compare

Thanks for the comparison, but all we need now is TOS/AUP one

Ummmm... Telkom's details are wrong. They announced their new rates a few weeks ago.

If you check the 10mb ADSL pricing on Afrihost, the uncapped account is R997, but the bundle, including line rental for 10mb is R897.

    Error?

Nope, they are pushing to manage the line for you. R897 includes the adsl line rental.

R100 + R413 = R513 more, if you want to keep your adsl line with Telkom.

I know, thats my point. Why is the bundle so much cheaper?

Because they want to 'lock' you to them by managing your line. Same applies to the banks - too much PT to move your line/bank account, so you stay where you are.
Lure enough people in and you have a loyal customer base.

Where does the price cuts come in if it is actually going up?
A one meg from Mweb is currently R488, all inclusive and is going to 2 Meg after 24 Aug right? Mweb is charging for 2meg already R599!
    Clever?

What happens if I am on a 1mb connection and then get bumped up to the 2meg connction due to telkoms upgrades. Does that mean I need to pay the 2mb uncapped amount, when I was paying the 1mb uncapped amount?

Your ISP will still have your speed set at 1MB thus your speeds will still be limited to 1MB even though your line is capable of 2MB.Therefore you will pay for the 1MB amount. If you want to enjoy the 2MB speeds on uncapped you will have to ask your ISP to upgrade to a 2MB uncapped account assuming they offer one.

Something that I still don't understand... Maybe someone could give me a better understanding as well.

On the 2Mbps accounts, why is Mweb so much more expensive?

At the moment we don't have much to go by (only two to compare), but overall the pricing does not seem to scale well at all.

I know the service itself is great, I am enjoying Mweb 4Mbps at the office - it's really awesome. But now that we are getting ADSL at home as well, I don't think it is going to be good value for money for me to get a 2Mbps Mweb Uncapped account - would probably stay at 1Mbps till I can squeeze a 4Mbps into the budget as those two still seem to be good value for money, in comparison.
