I still need to get proper clarity on this:

Does this mean that if I buy a Win7 Home Basic edition now I will be upgrading to Win8 Pro from the 26th of October?

Never really had performance issues. Was more the Metro UI I didn't find appealing or practical for my needs

This just confirms that I really should go ahead and upgrade.

It means that Win9 is the time that Metro will be crowded. Further, this type of cycle in my opinion is so because people (particularly companies) are not eager to upgrade their SW. Not because they don't like the upgrade version but because upgrading is a cost. For instance, many companies are only starting to use Win7 now (the last 12 - 18 months).

But I think the Metro UI in DP was screwed, I could not get that thing working, couldn't really change stuff, etc, yet when I installed CP every worked better. I read somewhere that from DP to CP they made 100 000+ changes or something. So I guess what I'm trying to say is give it another go with Release Preview... you may just like it. hehehe.

Like anything new, people will bash it...

Windows 8 is bloody good, and i'm sure most people will eventually be using it.

Couldn't hurt I suppose. Maybe on that off day at home when I really have nothing else to do

I'll try out the consumer preview before I spend any money.

Go for the Release Preview, even more enhancements from Consumer Preview. On RP, you can also download and install Office 2013 preview, which doesn't install on Consumer Preview.

They can avoid it if they fix it before launch.
I agree. The thing is a dog. Woof woof.

    Win 3.1 - good
    Win 95 - good
    Win 98 - good

Your "timeline" lies. Also - Windows 2000 was a server OS, similar to NT 3.5 and NT 4.0 before it. All 3 were good OS's in a row.
