Thread: Cell C data reset a day early?

  1. #1

Default Cell C data reset a day early?

I was expecting my data to reset on the 1st of August, but instead it seems as though it reset at midnight on the 31st of July instead. I activated my 2 GB p/m x 12 bundle (prepaid, R1299) on the 1st of June. It reset on the 1st of July. Surely it should have reset on the 1st of August and not today. I lost about 260 MB - I was actually in the process of using up what I had left before it reset.

Is this right? I thought the data would last a whole month, or is it 30 days? Can someone please clarify?

I would PM the Cell C rep, but he's likely very busy as I haven't had a response from him for some time as far as private messages go.

    Thanks.

I was also out of data and this morning I had data again... Must have been reset last night...

That's unfair, especially if you were planning to burn the last of this month's allocation today.

Agreed, if you have over 500MB it would be a total waste. Not cool Cell C!

Agreed. It's plain wrong is what it is. I had a feeling it would happen though, for some reason. Knew I should have burned most of it over the weekend, but you never know if you'll need it or something for the last day or two of the month (one day as it turns out). And if most of it's gone and you don't have enough you have to go and top up with more data, which is a waste for one day, unless you buy the 3GB for 12 months bundle with no monthly caps.

Well, you could just play dumb and use all of the "new" allocation by tonight. Disconnect before 23h59. Then come tomorrow just complain that you didn't get your new allocation (1st of the month)

Well, that thought had crossed my mind -- that it might reset again at midnight. But what if it doesn't? Then I've gone and used all that data for nothing. I'm also wondering if the data I have now will reset on the 31st of August or the 1st of September. Or maybe the 30th or the even the 29th of August!

PMing the Cell C rep about this.

And ajax, that is a dastardly plan. If only I had the courage!

Edit: Well, the data didn't reset this morning.

    HI All

On the data promos , they reset last day of the months at 00:00
even if bought on the 2 or 10th, the last date on month at 00:00 they reset.

Sorry, but I'm just not sure if we're on the same page. I'll wait and see if the data resets on the morning of August 31st (as in having data up until 23:59 on August 30th and then it resets the next minute) or September 1st (having data up until 23:59 on August 31st). Because at least for me, it's always been the first of the month, i.e. September 1 at 00:00, until recently. Something has changed.

scuzzy seems to know what I'm on about.

Yes, they should have reset at 00:00 on August 1 (i.e. 1 minute after 23:59 on July 31).

OPs are complaining that they reset a day early, on the morning of July 31. See the dates of the posts.

Edit: From the Terms and Conditions:
    • New data bundles will be loaded on the first of every month at 00:00:00.
    • Bundles will expire at the end of every calendar month at 23:59:59.

In line with Cell-C's new straight forward/easy to understand contracts and for the sake of clarity, should this not be first day of month at 00:00

or last day of month at 24:00

This "the last date on month at 00:00 they reset" is a day to early

To avoid confusion, the reset should occur at 1 second past midnight on the 1st of the month

I took a look at the data packages page over at the Cell C website after reading here on mybb about their new data bundle prices (which I might add are quite good) and saw the text under the prepaid smart data - sim only options, where it says:

    2GB every 30 days x 12
    http://www.cellc.co.za/data-packages

So that either explains why it reset a day early, or it should be changed to something like 2GB per month for 12 months, or 2GB p/m x 12 - so it doesn't matter if it's 28, 29, 30, or 31 days in a month.
