Eina! Why not pay someone to go along for added security. You'll still be saving money.

That class 6 16GB SD should cost half of that.

Ag it's ok, I'll just pay it and get over with it. This is my first new camera in 4 years so I don't mind paying that bit extra.

Understood. Think you made the right choice with the SX40. P510 is the best if money wasn't an option, but considering the extra R1000, the SX40 wins.

    Gonna get mine this afternoon.

P.S. ORMS Direct has it for R3600 with R110 shipping to wherever. Also have a nice Canon bag and cheaper SD cards.

Yes I agree. I got mine lunchtime, now the wait begins for clocking off so I can go home and play with my new toy.

Will be posting some pictures later tonight.

But if you start doing that kind of stuff, is a bridge PnS still the right camera for you??

Why not? All you need is a hotshoe. . .

Got mine just now, waiting for the battery to charge. Interesting that the SX30 has a NB-7L battery (1050mAh) and the SX40 a NB-10L (920mAh). NB-7L doesn't even fit in the SX40. This seems like a downgrade?

I need some advice on SD cards...Seems like Sandisk and Lexar are the most reputable brands for cameras, but Verbatim has a 32GB class 10 SDHC for R299 at Incredible. Any suggestions?

Congrats on the new cameras! The Canon is a great choice and best value offer for sure.

Have you considered an eye-fi card?

Not in great detail since they're WAY out of my budget.

It looks like the SX40 will write 1080p video at about 6-7Mb/s, so any class 10 SD should be sufficient. R299 for a 32Gb must be the way to go then, even if it's Verbatim.

    Thanks for that.

Samsung cameras aren't well supported as it is not one of the big well established brands in the industry ... but boy do they come to the party lately! Lots of innovation. Well priced. Well spec'd. Excellent value. The WB850F is a brilliant compact to own. Small enough to carry everywhere but 21x zoom and wi-fi plus remote management apps for my Android phone/tablet.
