Thread: What's with all the hate for Spur?

This is exactly why I go to Spur.

It is a place where kids can be kids without snotty people looking down on them.

Also, whenever I have received food and/or service that was not up to the standard I expected (and paid for) I have called on a manager to sort it out. It has always been sorted out to my satisfaction.

Oh and did I mention the lack of pretentious snotty people that do not want to allow kids to be kids.
We do not live in the times where you need to dress up in a 3 piece suit and act all prim and proper just to have a meal anymore. People have families, no reason why going out for a meal should not be a family affair.

I have found that the Spurs in smaller cities and towns like Bloemfontein, have better overall service and food quality than Johannesburg ones. Based on my infrequent visits.
I have a Spur Bloemfontein story. Work had me there overnight - or I should say SAA had me there overnight seeing as they only fly to Bloem once a year (or something like that).

I was looking for a steak house and the interwebz gave some pretty good reviews based on the experience of foreigners. And as anyone who wears shoes is a foreigner in Bloem I thought I'd hunt one down only to find that since the World Cup of 2010 the only places in Bloem seem to sell coffee or cocktails. No matter, the trusty Spur was there.

The service was very friendly - and that is because Bloem is really a student town but the food was very average. And they put sugar in the pumpkin.

So at the Spur here the waiters get forced to dance to some redneck tune every hour on the hour, is this a nation wide thing or just a Bay thing?

Same also don't like it so don't go near that Spur, but hate when I eat at the Ocean Basket is that I can hear it accross the food court

They shouldnt play it aloud, it is as irritating as the birthday song

I know that you go to a restaurant that specifically caters for kids and families, and then complains when said kids act like kids.

They took away the salad bar... now it's just mediocre food, for a little bit more you can go to a really nice restaurant.

Those ribs and chicken wings will be the end of me though. I just can't control myself.

I was at the Spur in Big Bay a couple of years ago. A young couple came in with a baby, plopped him into one of those seats that clipped onto the table, whipped out a portable DVD player with 7" screen, and proceeded to have a nice meal, a beer or two and an hours peace and quiet.

It's not everywhere you can do that

Spurs steaks are as thin as burger patties, and they're damn expensive for what you get. I stopped going to Spur years ago. Only go to Cattle Baron these days.
