    Default Scammers targeting stupid people...

I guess it is true what they say - a fool and his money are soon parted.

The problem with this is that it isn't just stupid people, but ignorant ones too. The elderly could easily fall for this sort of scammer and they would have no recourse whatsoever. What other scams do you know of where the stupid and the ignorant are specifically targeted?

IMO, all scams target vulnerable people of some sort ... whether it be greedy people, the aged, the poor or even those that lost a loved one and is desperate for closure or some sort of communication beyond the grave.

That reminds me, as I was watching American Greed last night, I have always wondered, has there been a large number of Ponzi schemes run in SA (that we know of) ? I am no financial genius, but I amazed that people fall for those. Surely, if it sounds too good to be true .................

Her site says she's only a medium psychic though. Wonder if the picture is real?

I still see people wearing those Power Balance bracelets. Does that count?

There is a story on IOL, this morning of a pensioner who travelled from Mthatha to Johannesburg to collect R57m she won in a UK lottery. Scammer had already taken her for about R8000 and asked for R57k at the meeting where they got arrested.

Yeh, hopefully a charge of dynamite. These investment banker bastards are the reason we are in a global recession, some investments (actually speculations) and the stock market is like taking your money to a casino and handing it over to the dealer to play with, just because he works there doesn't mean he knows what he is doing.

As far as I know but the guy disappeared with a whole bunch of old people's cash. He seemed to have targeted pensioners.

He is scum, but I wonder why they invest with someone who is not with a well-known bank/investment company who has some credibility? The media should lay more emphasis on this aspect so that people are warned to not get involved with those thieves that operate as fly-by-nights.
