Thread: Sooo...I bought a sub woofer

Default Sooo...I bought a sub woofer

I drive a 2006 Ford Focus and anybody who knows these cars knows that the factory sound is not bad at all. I was looking to enhance my bass a 'bit' and bought a 15" Targa 2000w rms in a superwood box.

What are your suggestions for a good amp? I'm planning to buy a monoblock. I'm not sure about wattage, but I'm not planning to enter any competitions. I want to keep the rest of the system standard and just run the sub with an ample amp.

    What are your suggestions/advice?

    Edit: Subwoofer

If you don't understand the argument well enough that you could switch sides and represent the other team, stop arguing.

hmmm people who want abit of bass buy 10"

go with a targa amp, monoblock ...and then later on you can get a split system with another amp

cause that 15" is huge and will drown the sound of your small speakers

I had a 2007 focus. I fitted an amp and some nice mb quart splits and the bass from them by themselves was really good. Never got around to bothering with a sub. Why would you want to keep the stock sound system which provides the more musical part and then add a huge sub? Do you live in boksburg?

What wattage would work well with the amp without going ape5hit and still drive the sub well?

I kinda got the sub and box at a very good price. The power is adjustable anyways, right?

I dont know about 2000W RMS lol sure its not 2000W peak?
Theres a lot of decent monoblocks that are cheapish and can run a *200W RMS sub.

Indeed 2000w RMS is a bit massive, would need to redo your electrical system to even feed the menace, think you should re-check the stats on that one

Next does the Focus have 4 or 2 speakers standard? Even with 4 such a big sub would drown it out tbh,or you'd underwork it severely :P

Maybe I need to check the stats again. If the electrical system needs to be worked on, the sub will have to go to the first buyer. I'm not messing with electricals.

    My Focus has 4 speakers.

Assuming it's 200,you could get away with maybe 16guage electrical cable plus a fuse to feed an 800w Amp ( bridged should provide enough juice without overpowering

Also it's 50/50 if the headunit that comes standard has Aux outs so you'd need to check that

I am looking for a new sub i think a 15" will do nicely ... so it's the green focus with gp plates right?

The aux socket I know of is in the glove box. I don't know about Aux outs in the back of the head unit though. If not, does this mean installation will not be possible?

you really want to sound like a taxi with 2000w real music sound. thats an overkill for ypur car. rather put in a set of 7x10 limpids to give you the extra oomph

Thats an Aux in,not Aux out :P
Aux out is used to carry the digital signal to your amplifier. There are analogue digital converters that can take a feed from the speaker wire but that is yucky. If your HU doesn't have aux out it would be best to get one with it

Anything is possible, just depends if the effort to make it happen is worth it ^.-

Fur on your dash, dice hanging from your rear view mirror and an orange on your aerial should finish the picture off nicely

Christ-mass is NOT for Christians. Jeremiah 10.
Is the 10 Commandments for Christians?

Saturday is the Seventh day, Sunday is the first day.
