They called me yesterday, R2500 to fix the bike.
I'm taking a mechanic (scooter) with me on the day when I go fetch the bike - pointless fighting it anymore, they clearly refuse to admit that maybe it's not my fault so I'll pay the cost but I have a few things I'm going to check / confirm with the help of the mechanic.
Anything remotely strange or funny and I'm going to take it further - not only by taking it to BBS directly but also - the mechanics sister is part of a local newspaper and she said she'll do investigations.

Sadly, you can't do that.
If you buy the bike from say, Table View Big Boys (example) then they have to service it - if you take it elsewhere, you void the warranty.

Try Moto mia in buitengracht street, cape town. There is a guy called named Raymond who is a cool chap and might be able to assist... I think he is the manager of the Repair shop there.

They called today, Bike has been fixed, R2660 which I have paid.

I am so angry at them! That's more than what they quoted me last week, then the guy Johannes Chirova had the cheek to tell me that they will not be charging me for even more parts they had to replace!

I have no trust in this branch or faith in them - yet, originally when I bought the bike, the people were so nice especially Marcelle Gomes who has since then left.
So when I take the bike, I'm going to take a few people with, I'm going to get them to show me everything again (where to put in the oil) even though I know, I want people (witnesses to see) and then I will have to monitor the scooter every single day!

It seems your warranty is pretty useless anyway.

That's sad to hear man, I had bought a Puzey scooter a couple of years ago and it was great. Used to cost 300 bucks to service. Then switched to an original Vespa which was brilliant but expensive as hell. No bike at the moment.

PS: You should definitely report this to someone, very poor service specially since the bike is under guarantee?

IMHO this is the best alternative to cheap scooters: http://www.honda.co.za/main.aspx?id=72&pid=28 You can find a decent one on Gumtree with very low mileage if you are interested.

The problem is mostly with after sales service if you do not know anything yourself. That Honda is very good in terms of build quality and availability of parts. Many take away franchises use them with the thing on the back. That should point to something.

I hear that my scooter is running very nicely. The mechanic that was 'fired' went in to fetch the remainder of his stuff and checked my bike.

I have been burnt by Big Boys Sea Point and do not trust them as far as I can throw them.

There's also the legendary Honda Super Cub with 60+ million sold.

I don't see how lack of oil will break the crank. No oil will lead to a heat seize, destroying the head way before it destroys the bottom end. I think the dealer is taking you for a ride. However, these cheap scooters are disposable. Just get another one. Or if you have some more sense, that honda estorm, or xl125. I had both, and they are invincible. Literally, checked the oil once, it completely empty and it still didn't even come close to a seize.

I think metal fatigue would be a factor too. Cheap motorbike makers are probably going to use cheap metals.

I've played with old Chinese scooters on on friends farms as a child (great fun), and by the amount of thrashing I gave it, one would think it would go boom. But, infact, they are really hard to brake! Survived at least two hours at a time of constant burnouts on the grass. And im talking, OLD scooters.
