Thread: 2009 Honda Jazz 90000km service

  1. #1

Default 2009 Honda Jazz 90000km service

My parents have a 2009 Honda Jazz 1.5 Auto which they need to service. Due to both not working until recently they missed the 90000km service. The vehicle is now on 94500km. Honda Somerset quoted R3500 for the 90000km service. I think this includes replacing the cambelt. The 75000km service was just over R1000.

My father phoned the service advisor earlier this week and asked him if it a problem that the car is now at 94500km and he said its already out of the warrantee period so it didn't matter.

My first question is whether it would be worth it to have the car serviced at the agents, or should we rather try to find a Honda approved service centre, or just take the car to a decent service centre?

The next one is whether anyone could recommend any Honda approved service centre, or any decent service centre anywhere from Somerset West to Cape Town?

There is no such thing as a 'Honda (or any other manufacturer, for that matter) Approved service centre', apart from the agents themselves. Why would a manufacturer give its approval to any business that simply does the same work their agents do?

That being said, there is probably little sense in continuing to pay dealer prices on an out-of-warranty car. Give these guys a call and see how their quote compares.

Dealers are not always expensive. I paid R3400 for my 90000km service at a Nissan dealership. This included six new spark plugs at around R1500 total. So the normal service would be around R2000. Fair price I think for a car that cost over R400k new. (350z, 3.5l V6)

Bosch Service Centre FTL! I sent my car for a normal oil change service on the R595 special a few years ago. A service consultant calls me and gave me a quote of just under R6000. I told him to finish the normal service, forget the washing of the car and I went and picked it up immediately. I fixed up all the problems they reported for less than R1000.

The Jazz does not use a cambelt, it has a chain instead. If they are quoting you on a belt replacement then look for someone else.

My own experience from Honda ownership is thats the parts can be expensive. You will need to see how much the parts price is driving the R3 500 price (as opposed to labour) in order to decide if having someone else doing it will save money.

R3500 is nothing. And thats for cambelt too.
I used to own a Renault Senic. It's 90 000km service, with cambelt almost worked out to between R8000 and R9000.

I must get myself a Honda again, oh the joy.
If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.

I knew I heard this before. I told my dad this last night but wasn't sure if it was the Jazz or Accord. I'll see if I can get a list of what needs to be done at the 90000km service.

You paid R1500 for six spark plugs? You know they only cost about R25 each?

I could have probably imported them for about R100 each (not from China) before any shipping costs. I would have had to switch them out myself though.

Chain. Check the service manual it should tell you what is usually done at 90k.

2005. The dealers stamp is worth more than the R1000 I may have saved by doing things myself. My time is worth more than that. Forget about the tools and effort also required. I feel that the service was cheap taking all this into account.

With a full service history at a dealership my car will also be worth a more when I decide to sell. So the service basically pays for itself without any effort required from me.
