Lets be frank here. Verwoerd would be considered by many as a very bad man, and so we don't want roads named after him. Makes sense too me.
On the other hand, if Shaka was a modern leader and did the same things today as he did way back when, he would be considered a genocidal maniac. But we name roads and airports after him. Funny old world we live in.
Some of you are missing the point of this thread:
The streets I mentioned are in a quiet neighborhood where few people, other than those who live here, even know they exist. If these were major/main/busy roads you can be sure that they would have been renamed long ago.
Personally I'm not really in favour of renaming things and hiding/obscuring history, I'd actually keep these street names as they are. Having a major road/landmark/whatever named after someone like Verwoerd is probably not acceptable though.
